With elizabeth taylor?

Eh. I wouldn't see it. I didn't like any of her movies except flintstones. her commercials suck too.

Now Leonor Varela...that was some good looking cleopatra. That's historically incorrect XD. Unless you think a woman who looks like a man looks good.

I think Eliabeth Taylor's got a bum rap over the years. Her Cleopatra was one of the most beutiful roles in her career.
She has been an outstanding "star", and her personal life only plays like a T.V. movie. Her acting, which has been panned, has been, overall, very good. "Virgina Woolf", "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" "The Long, Hot Summer" are but three of her roles in which she was really good. Only eye-candy? "Virginia Woolf" disproves that. Although I think she was at her most beautiful in "Cat".
As you can tell, I'm a big fan of hers. I think she was, at her peak, one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.
A good example of Cleopatra, though, is the version made be Cecil B. DeMille, starring Claudette Colbert in the title role. The costumes she wore are out of this world! She played the femm fatale to the hilt.

I must stick up for Elizabeth Taylor here. For a film it is excellent watching, I think Taylor adds a sense of fraility and strength to the role that Leonor Varela just didn't. For real wooden acting watch Leonor Varela as the Queen, it provides me with some of the most cringe worthy moments from film. Taylor is delicate but still conveys power and majesty perfectly alongside the female frailty often neglected when discussing the great queen. This is shown through her tempestrous relationship with Anthony and her desolation at the grief of Caesar. Taylor made the film for me, making it one of my favourites and one which I still regularly watch. Leonor Varela had the extremely good looks but Taylor had the mood and skills to show the "seductive" side of Cleopatra. Remember that in reality the Queen was not blessed looks wise and the charm was in fact in her personality and intelligence, a side to the Queen that is portrayed best in the Taylor version.

I will warn you though, it is at least 4 hours long. So make sure you are sitting comfortably and I suggest going for a break just after she leaves Rome (in most editions there is a short musical interlude with no screen action). Be careful, I got a numb bottom and was desperate for the loo without a break, it was an experience! lol

  • Directed by
    Roland Emmerich
  • Writing credits
    • Sean O'Keefe
    • Will Staples (screenplay)
  • King Tut is apparently to be played by African American Actor Tavares Jamal
