I've always thought his theories on the Nefertiti mummy to be at least a biased as Joanne Fletcher's but whatever. I'm taking this story with a grain of salt, but at the very least he did a DNA test! Yep. That's right. Zahi did a DNA test. (I still think the mummy is Meritaten. It even LOOKS like a girl to me, but whatever. If the results really WERE definate that the mummy's a man, you'd think they'd have more publicity, plus all the earlier medical examiners said that it's a woman.). Read the whole stink right here: http://www.cbc.ca/disclosure/archives/0 ... /test.html

Hawass himself said DNA testing is not reliable. He hates Fletcher so much he even goes into contradicting himself. I still think this mummy is either Akhenaten's daughter or his sister.

I kind of feel sorry for Fletcher, making such a fool of her self on television.
 okay so i can't keep a straight face saying that.
But you have to admit it was a good way to be cheered up, watching that special!
Yes it would be great if we had found Nefertiti, but i don't believe we will find her or Akenaten. Their bodies most likely are too distroyed! Or nothing left at all. most likely the later.
I agree it can possible be one of the children, but not Nefertiti.

I am deeply gratified that Egyptian authorities have taken steps to stop the blantent tall tales that come from scholars mostly about the Amarna Period, but are not limited to it.

The tall tales are motivated in my most humble opinion to obtain funding and to make a name for one's self.

It is long past time that Egyptian authorities began action to stop this habit.

i do feel for Dr. Fletcher, she isn't the first but hopefully she will be the last.

The mummie is right next to that of Queen Tiy so we might guess it was from her immediate family. The problem is that there were many members of that family, especially women. They will have to teat the whole group to get a really good idea.

If the DNA testing said it was a male does that mean that it is 100% sure the mummies a male. I thought the mummy was Meriaten or one of Nefertiti's younger daughters, but if it's a male then that is impossible. :? Does anyone know how acurate DNA testing is in telling the gender of a mummy??

The mummy could be up to 3,000 years old. Does that answer the question?

LOL! ...this is an ancient mummy. Normally you could tell by looking at a body by looking at it what it is... ...but over the centuries, certain things tend to crumble into dust break off etc. So the mummy isn't as anatomically correct as it once was. Plus, considering how this mummy is theorized to be an Amarna mummy.. ..well... Those guys were kinda wierd-looking and in the pictures they all looked the same anyways. So, it's kinda hard to tell. (I hope that made sense.)

 i'm not going there.

can't one tell by the width of the hips? though akhenaten, being a marfan's guy and frequently shown with a feminine physique because of his deformatory disease...i'm sure it's a bit more difficult to tell. the skull is the obvious part when identifying that part of the 18th dynasty.

perhaps the marfan's is what is making the female/male thing so hard to tell.

usually length of the femur (?) and width of the hips is anthropologically how they can tell the gender.
