Eighty years ago on this date, November 4, 2002, the first step leading to the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankamen was revealed in the Valley of the Kings by the British Excavator Howard Carter and his much excited crew. By the next day they had uncovered 16 steps cut out of the bedrock leadign to a sealed door, stamped with the seals of the Nercropolis, or the Jackal and 9 captives symbol, and the cartouche of Tutankhamen. Much to the surprise of the Excavator, the tomb was found nearly intact, containing most all of its priceless treasures full of information that would shed light on this mysterious culture and forever more be the most widely known discovery in the history of Excavation.
And everybody knows that story from here, so I won't relate the rest of it
Oh, if only we could find another such tomb!
HAPPY 80th ANNIVERSARY!
