That sounds like a very 'Christian' point of view. If that's not the case then I apologise and please ignore this next bit but if it is, well she wasn't a Christian she was a Pagan, like myself. So taking her own life would not have condemmed her to the 'pits of hell', from her point of view. She believed it would have sent her on a journey through the stars to take her place with the gods and with Casaer.
And putting religion aside, we cannot ascribe modern cultural values (comitting suicide) to a situation that took place thousands of years ago. Back then it was perfectly normal and honourable to take ones own life rather than be captured by your enemies. Not to do so would have been considered the cowards way out back then, unlike today. She would have been looked up to by her people for refusing to be taken alive by Octavian and paraded through Rome.
