As to the rumor of Akhenaten's body having been burned in Amarna...

From other evidence, it seems that the mummy that was burned was a Roman-era mummy (Amarna was inhabited by Romans for a short period of time if I remember correctly). There is no proof that it was indeed Akhenaten's mummy, and why would villagers in the late-1800's burn a mummy anyways?

About the body in KV 55, the one that many people think is Smenkhkare...

If you read Nicholas Reeve's book Akhenaten: Egypt's False Prophet it says that two people did a comprehensive medical exam on the mummy and discovered that the body was older than before thought, old enough to be Akhenaten. However, they didn;t release their records, so no one can know the true facts of the autopsy. Others believe that the body is of a young man in his 20's, too young for Akhenaten, old enough to be the mysterious Smenkhkare (Unless you're one who believes that Smenkhkare and Nefertiti were one and the same, in which case it wouldn't make sense).

I also believe that Tutankhamen was the son of Akhenaten and Kiya. Who else could it have been? If you do the math, there is no was that it could have been Amenhotep III: If Akhenaten ruled for 17 years after his father's death and then Smenkhkare ruled for 2 years after that, it makes 19 years. Tutankhamen was 9 or 10 when he started ruling. How could Amenhotep have fathered a child after he was dead for 7 years?????

Where does Cleopatra fit in? I'm sorry, it's a silly question.. but I thought she was tied with Tutankhaten in some relation?

The whole issue there is the co-regency question. Some scholars believe Amenhotep III and Akhenaten ruled side by side for some years. The estimated time varies from scholar to scholar and ranges from some 4 years all the way to 12.

So IF there was a long co-regency, then it is just possible that Amenhotep III was Tut's father.The inscriptions left on behalf of Tutankhamen were just vague enough that he could have referred to Amenhotep III as his father OR as his grand-father.

Having said that I think that Tut was Akhenaten's son. It seems that he grew up in the North Palace of Amarna. This seems to be the palace of Queen Kiya (until she disappeared from the record).

And for as far as I know Tutankhamen and Cleopatra have nothing to do with each other. They lived separated by some 1300 years. Tutankamen was by all accounts of Egyptian descent, while Cleopatra was of Macedonian descent.

And to back up Akhenaten and All those on here who theorize that Tut and Akhenaten are father and son: recall that a stele was found to declare Tut as "The king's own bodily son", and recall that it was found in Akhetaten, NOT Thebes. Besides, Amenhotep III would be dead from at least the disease in his teeth or of old age. I don't think someone as old as he was could have the "Mojo" needed to reproduce.

It's a strong feeling I've always had--Akhenaten and Tut ARE father and son...I just wish it would be proven and widely accepted as a solid FACT someday...
