no, that wouldnt work, i forget who, but an enginieer did his sums and worked out that the ramp would colaps on its own weight, and the volume of material in the ramp would be more than the volume of material in the pyramid itself, and to top it off the men building the pyramid wouldn't be able to check their work,

There was a program on the History Channel lastnight that explored the idea that the Ancient Egyptians used kites to lift the 2 ton blocks into place. Unfortunately it was on the same time as the Sopranos so I didn't catch it but I will let everyone know when it is on again.

My initial thought (without seeing the program) is that it seems unlikely as you would need consistant winds that were strong enough to lift the large stones for 20 years!

Thats a good point, i also heard another one, the blocks could have been lifted by hydrogen balloons, its possible but alot of hydrogen would be needed to do it.

Okay, lets do some math.
2,500,000 blocks in the pyramid.
that is 125,000 placed per year.
Assuming a 12 hour day, 365 days a year, that is 1 block every minute placed and aligned.
The ramp would have to be no steeper than 1:10.. That gives a ramp to be constructed 4850 feet long.

And as for picking 200 ton blocks?
There are 5 cranes in the world that can do this.
They are counterweight design, with steel girders, and the counterweight is 160 tons. Each load takes 5 to 6 weeks to prepare.
The other type are the gantry designs we see at ports - and there is not the room to place these.

It has been decided by construction engineers that even today we cannot reproduce these buildings.
This is not because of money, but because we simply cannot do it. It is beyond us.

As for who, it was not aliens either.
Who & why I think did it is going to be another thread fairly soon.
But it was egyptians - or at least, humans , who built them. For a very definite purpose as well, and that purpose was to make them LAST.

I'll give you a clue - think about when the ground plan was laid out.
Then think about when they were finished off (closed).
Then go do some astronomy.
Then think about something called the Oort cloud, and by then I may have finished writing my little theory down someplace.

Using astronomy to help prove a concept of the creation of the pyramids is problimatical at best. The position of the stars today is vastly different than the position of the stars 4000 years ago.
The Bent pryamid was built before the GP. This has been proven by detailed excavations over the past 50 years.
I realize this is thinking in the box. But in no way does it show a meek acceptance of prevailing--an wrong, in your opinion--of results that are the end result of years of study.

In order to figure out how the pyramids were built, your mind must be set on "simple thinking." Instead of assuming that these giangantic fortresses were built, just assume that they were already in existance before mankind. How? What about the idea of these building being formed by our creator? I believe that these pyramids were once under water volcanoes that were formed in the beginning, when the earth was being formed. As the water recended, sand from the oceans floor covered all but the tops of them. Man just sculptured, in a triangle shaped way, these to basically look nice. As the family grew and the wind blew, more of the pyramid was revealed and man continued to carve this design. This is just a better way of me understanding, not to say its correct, but the thought of me believing that people were inslaved to build the monuments all their lives,especially when the believed in reincarnation, is beyond uncomprehenable.

Neilwilkes, you are talking about the Pyramids as if you already firmly know exactly how they were constructed. I am sick to high heaven of people who cannot understand that the Egyptians were dedicated religious people who cared about their religion enough to create such spectacular monuments. It was their firm beliefs and perseverance that got the Pyramids built, and trying to attribute their construction to Aliens, or meteor debris that conveniently fell into a pyramind-shaped block is short sighted and naive. If we had the same vigour as the Egyptians then we could easily construct a Pyramid of even greater size. We have moved heavier objects, built taller buildings, gone into space and tapped the subatomic particles that make up our universe to produce power. But you will notice that we have only been able to make these breakthroughs when there was a true motive to work and to research. The Egyptians were driven by their faith, whilst in my analogy we were driven by war and political tension.

There are still people who believe that man didn't land on the moon. There were encyclopediae published in the early 20th century stating that man would never fly, andf yet you and I know that both are true (the former being irrefutably proved by the fact that NASA and DEFCO still use the laser trigonometry devices on the moon placed there in 1970 to take recordings). Humankind can achieve the most incredible things.
