The greatest thing study of Ancient Egypt has taught me is that it makes no difference who your parents were. It doesn't matter what you started off in life as. What matters and this is what Egyptian studies taught me. What matters is what you, you, yourself do in life.

Time and time again we read of the ancients as they tell us what they did in life. We don't read much about their parents, their bloodlines, or even their children in the greater part of the what remains of their stories left to us. It is what the person did in their life they recount mostly on their tomb walls.

So if folks laugh at you for your interest in Ancient Egypt let them laugh there are some great things to learn from studying it.

You are correct instating that 'Who we are has nothing to do with what other people think." I have learned many truth's from studing the Ancient Egyptian way's.
It is so amazing to me the truth that once was so simple is now so complicated. We are a group of lost sheep. There are people on this site that don't even believe in the teaching's of the God's of ancient Egypt and their duties; imagine that.
What I have learned most is who "I am"; and what my purpose is! It is to serve one another and therefore the light, love and way.

Just because we study the Ancient Egytpians doesn't mean we have to believe in their religion and what they believed to be true. If you believe in the Ancient Kemetian religion and Gods and it makes you a better person in life, then I completlely an utterly applaud that and respect that but you certainly can't be surprised that most people don't belive that anthropomorphic beings are/were responsible for every or any aspect of life as we know it.

I may be stirring something up that need not be stirred but I feel religion, in every sense of the word, is man made, driven by a given civilization's or society's attempt to explain what they don't physically understand, and is a reflection of the era,geographic location, and aspects of daily life, whether it be monotheism, polytheism, or paganism. Because I find the Ancient Egyptian religion and deities extremely intriguing does not mean I must believe it/them to be truth to be interested, just because the Ancient Egyptians did. I find it intriguing because it governed their entire way of life and was the basis for their culture and civilization and vise versa.

I am not going to go into religion because that is a widely discussed topic and is very diverse, but i am goign to share what Egypt has taught me. It has taught me that it is perfectly fine to be different. i mean that when i am at school i am the only one that i know (out of about 1200 kids) that has a total different interest. it has taught me that being different is one of the greatest things. it pulls you out of the crowd and makes you, you. i mean this may not seem such a big deal, but it is. when some people see me or talk to me that i havent talked to in a while, they are like "hey arent you that girl that likes egypt and stuff" i mean it just feels good to know that i am known for something that is unique and awesome. and it is also nice to know that there was this culture out there in the BC times that was totally advanced in many ways and different. i mean i cant put inot words how much i love learning about egypt, and i also hope this doesnt sound too weird. lol. but yea egypt has taught me that it is alright to be different.

Studying religion doesn't make anybody a better person. But applying spiriutality to your life does. I would go further to say that most of the people on this site feel a common thread of the familiar w/one another because of our love of Ancient Egypt and it's people. Not just because we find them intriguing .... would you believe that we believe in them as though we were they? I will speak for myself in saying that Hatshepsut's truth is my own and I will lay claim to it and be proud of Egypt and her people!

Your like a contradiction in terms ....your intrigued although you do not believe. Why do you partake in something (much less study)... that you don't even believe in? Just out of curiousity?

Well which is it? Constrict our limitations of what we can post or allow the freedom to express our views and beliefs, whether they differ from other's. If it the former, it doesn't sound like Freedom is here.

Well, this can be compared to the saying: "My freedom to move my fist ends where the other man's face begins." or something like that. What I'm saying is, you can say stuff, but your freedom of saying things doesn't mean you can make someone feel bad. That's what I mean.

All I did was challenge someone's claims by asking for references on one thing and kept getting something else! If that hurt someone's feelings I am sorry , but if the sensitivety level is that low here, people shouldn't post things that can't be supported when they are questioned! This is completely lame. You know what? My feelings are hurt! I thought I found a site where people could engage in interesting, intelligent conversation on Ancient Egypt, this would include debating certain points and aspects of this great ancient civilization that we all love. If someone questioned a certain claim that I made about the AE's and asked for proof or references to my claim, I would either supply the references and if I couldn't I wouldn't have posted it in the first place.
