Egypt was rich compared to many other ancient nations.
Egypt actually was poor in 3 things wood, silver, and tin.
Egypt traded for those resources her grain, gold, electrum (a metal of mixed silver and gold), hard and soft stone, and pyprus one of the earliest forms of paper there was. Pyprus could be made into not just paper but shoes, boats, ropes, sails and, windows. Egypt also made some of the finest linen cloth in the world which she traded for those things Egypt needed. Linen made wonderfully strong sails and, ropes too; which the ancient seamen of all nations needed.
Egypt also had easy access to exotic aminals like the ibex, the african elephant, cheetas, ostrichs and other African animals. Ebony the beautiful dark wood of Africa all that Africa had eventually ended up in Egypt.
Nor were the Egyptians limited to just elephant ivory, they had access to the ivory teeth of hippos.
Crocodile hides were used by ancient soldiers for armor and used whereever tough hide was needed in those anicent days.
Egyptians were also one of the earliest glass makers in the world and this glass used for decoration in art, as well as useful objects (vases) was in high demand for trade as well as gold, grain and pyprus, Egypt's most traditional exports.
