hi Neith & all, I guess this show was exactly what everyone suspected it to be, just like that "secret of the pyramid" show and the "who killed Tut" thing. I still think that the mummy is a sister of Akhenaten.

She didn't persuade me either. She simply didn't give enough evidence. Double pierced ear and an afro wig? That isn't enough. And how old the mummy actually is? That doctor first said she's about 19 and then that she's about 30-35.

yeah, what was up with the age? I don't think they could have made that much of a mistake. 19 to 35? Are they really that similar? I don't think so. And, the afro wig thing...didn't the Egyptians think that they needed to be cleansed of all hair to please their gods? Then what's with the huge afro? I think that would be more insulting than praising...ahh, almost none of it made sense, so why try to understand?

Hi...I'm new on this forum and have enjoyed reading everybody's posts. I love Egypt history and art and I also watched the Discovery channel's Nefertiti show. It was interesting, to say the least. There were definitely some corny parts but then there were a few good parts, too. I'm jumping into the middle of this topic because one of the things they found out about this mummy was that it still had its 3rd molars(wisdom teeth) which were still immature....meaning they didn't have full-grown roots. Being a dental assistant I know a little bit about x-rays and teeth. Third molars that look that way in an x-ray are only found in teenagers of about 15-18 years old. This was one of the "little problems" the radiologist came across in the show, and I noticed it before he mentioned anything about it! (yay me!) I can't remember exactly what happened the last few minutes of the show but they seem to have just swept that fact under the rug. I have to agree, though, that the broken right arm they found under the mummy's wrappings is a strong arguement to it being a royal female mummy. But I just don't see how it could be Nefertiti who was....what?....32 or 35? Sorry, that's my opinion.

to guest: I don't know much about teeth (I'm scared of dentists and avoid them, hehe), but then is it possible for an older person, lets say about 30, to have those wisdom teeth? I still have them and I'm 23. Or is it completely impossible that Nefertiti could have wisdom teeth at her age?

Oh definitely, a person can have their wisdom teeth all their life if they are not compromising the health of the adjacent teeth....that means if they are not impacted and seriously crowding the teeth, or causing deterioration of the molars directly in front of them. Basically if someone has enough room for their wisdom teeth and they're not causing any health problems or occlusal problems(biting down) and the person keeps them clean and flosses between then it's perfectly fine. My dad still has his and he's 53. The only difference in this mummy's wisdom teeth at her time of death and you still having yours at 23 is that hers were immature, no roots developed at all; and if you had an x-ray taken of yours today, more than likely you will have very well developed roots that you can see clearly in an x-ray.
Sorry if I got long-winded.....

Okay, so as her teeth were immature, she couldn't be older then 19, is it so? How come that that doctor said she's about 30 after seeing x-rays of her skeleton? You know, 19 and 30, that's quite a difference. Personally, I don't think she's 30.

I don't think she's 30 at all. I think they 'said' 19-30 just so they could leave in a chance that the mummy may still be Nefertiti...just so the audience wouldn't leave right away.

Exactly. I agree with you both. I don't remember what the doctor said towards the end of the show about how he came to the conclusion that she's about 30 after he noticed her wisdom teeth. It seems as if they just blew that off as unimportant. I just don't see how it's possible that the mummy was a 30-something yr-old person.

I love hearing this stuff... At least I know that you're not trying to boost ratings.

But they did say wisdom teeth erupt anywhere between the ages of 16 and 35. That facial recreation they did at the end though was pretty good. very close to thutmose's sculpture.
