He did die although not straight away. Later in the report Ramses is refered to as 'The Great God' meaning he died, probably as a result of the conspiracy (poison maybe) but I believe he lived long enough to start the investigation.
It was partially his fault though for having not properly established order of priority among his wives and their children. Cartouches which should have held the name of his Great Royal Wife are left blank although it appears to have been Isis who was probably the mother of Ramses IV
