He died because Egyptian mythology, and more important its theology. Allowed for a God to be murdered and to return to life. Kind of like seeing plants, that die off only to be reborn in spring. Osiris was not just the King of the Dead, the Underworld but in the really ancient past. He was more a fertility God and assisted crops with growing each spring in rebirth. As Egyptian culture grew, and particularly after the destruction of the Old Kingdom the importance of Osiris grew into his more familiar role as King of the Dead and Underworld.

My favorite by the way is Sektmet, the daughter of Re, protectress, guardian of Egypt. After she recovered from her drunkeness that destroyed so many Egyptians, she became a healer and eventually became Hathor in later times.

Not necessarily true Meritaten. Christ was supposedly the 'son' of God, not a God himself. Christianity is a monotheism, no room for multiple Gods there!...ha.

Orthodox Christianity understands the concept of the Triune Godhead. This Godhead is divine. It incorporates, God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the Triune Godhead Jesus is not just the "son of God" but is a part of the Triune. He is as divine as the other members, while fully human at the same time. Christ dies, not because he is 'human' but because it is the price set by God, the Father for the sins of mankind. Christ gives up his life on earth, only to be resurrected to judge the living and the dead. It is a mystery to those outside Orthodox Christianity, and the Triune Godhead isn't always even understood by those within it.
Hearsies promote that Christ was just the 'son of God' and not of divine nature himself.
Orthodox Christianity in this means those Christian Churches that accept the Nicene Creed.
