If you are refering to the programs on TLC, yes I did catch them There was actually 4 programs. 2 back to back on Sunday night and another 2 back to back on Monday night.

I thought they were excellent! They were four 'not very well known' stories from different periods of Egyptian history. The programs followed the lives and events of certain figures from history from written accounts found on papyrus. They were obviously narrated but the scenes where the actors were speaking were subtitled in english. I was following the dialogue very carefully and they were actually speaking the ancient language!

The first program followed the life of a commoner who was drafted into the army for Thutmoses III first military campaign. It reenacted the military strategy and battle of this first of many succesful campaigns of Thutmoses III.

The second program was on a tomb robbing ring from the 26th dynasty (not 100% positive on the dynasty) and the cover up that involved the chief of police and government officials.

The 3rd program also took place around the 26th dynasty (again not 100 positive on the dynasty) and told the true accounts of the battle for power between a local govener and the Amun priesthood. The governer took control of the temple for many years, and eventually passed on this control to his son in law. 17 years later, and many years of resentment by Amun priests, the priest regained control by murdering the governers two sons and driving him from the town.

The fourth program took place in the late (greek) period. An unfaithfull woman had her lover murder her husband and then abondoned her twin teenage daughters throwing them out in the streets to fend for themselves. They traveled to Memphis in search of a friend of their murdered father for help. This trip coincided with the death of an Apis bull. The officials of memphis found their presence in memphis that coincided with the death of the bull to be an omen since the mourning ritual and funeral requires that twin virgins lead the ceremonies. They went from being porr and homeless to wealthy priestesses. However their kneiving mother created a successful plan to steel their fortune. They wrote to the Pharoah (one of the Ptolemies) for help but went unanswered.

I hope TLC airs more programs like this. I thought they were a refreshing break from most documentaries on Ancient Egypt (and I have over 80 hrs of documentaries on video). Excellent!!!!!

Tadukhipa and bel,

All four shows are airing again on TLC on Sunday Decemebr 14th from 3 PM - 7 PM eastern US time (GMT - 5). I don't know if this is the same program scheduling where you two are.

Also according do my monthly Time Warner Cable guide, the Travel Channel is airing 3 programs pertaining to AE on Monday December 15th. All times are eastern US times (GMT-5):

4pm - "Egypt: Land of the Mummies" (not sure if it is pt.1 or 2) - Note that the digital cable guide on the TV does not have this program listed so I'm not sure if it will be airing.

5pm - "Hidden World:Pyramids" - Several ancient cultures produce pyramids.

6pm - "Ancient Sites Brought to Life" - Computer graphics recreate fantastic ancient sites at the height of their glory including Egypt's pyramids and the Sphinx.

December 24th on the Travel Channel:

7pm - Must-See: Egypt

I was not able to watch it because I don't have cable! A friend of mine saw the commercial for it and she was going to try to tape it for me, but I haven't heard anything about it yet.

Bel,

It is my pleasure! You see, no one I actually know has an interest in Egypt like I do. The small amount of conversation regarding Egypt that I actual engage in (other than teaching my 7 year old son) is usually with people that have simple questions about the ancient Egyptians and that is usually pertaining to the pyramids. I thouroughly enjoy learning from and discussing different topics with people like yourselves and those on other discussion boards.

I would search through the TV guide for shows on Egypt anyways because I try to tape as much as I can, but I figure by sharing when certain programs air with those on this board, I hope to start or engage in some intersesting dialogue Smile

By the way, here is the continuosly growing list I have of documentaries and programs on Egypt. I have been slacking though as you may notice there have been some recent programs that have aired that you will not find in my list. I know the feeling. The only person I know in real life who I can have an equal Egypt discussion with is the librarian at my school. (And it can't be helping my reputation much to be constantly chatting with the "Book Nazi" as everyone calls her. Wink ) Most other people either just get confused right away, or say something about the mummy's curse or Egyptians shaving their eyebrows when their cats die or whatever...

I don't have anyone to talk to about Egypt, either, at least, not really. I know someone who is interested in Egypt, but we don't get to talk that much. We will be taking the same class on EGypt this Spring, though. It's only a personal development class, though, so I don't know if we'll get a certificate or anything like that.

Anyways... Neb-Ma'at-Re, you taped “PHAROAH’S AND KINGS : A BIBLICAL QUEST” ? I've read the book but I didn't know they had made it into a documentary. I also tape any TV programs about Egypt, but since I don't have cabel, I need to go to my friends house to do so, when I find out about the shows Smile
