The speaker was a naturalist not an Egyptologist (but he knew ancient Egypt).
He challenged a lot of the standard identifications.e.g Geb, the great cackler is often identified with the white fronted goose but it does not cackle - probably a greylag.
The mongoose might be an otter.
He pointed out the lanner has a whitish head & is associated with southern gods, the barbary falcon is reddish & northern - anything to do with crowns?
