Was Akhenaten a tyrant? I know in our school books they showcase him as a monotheistic being that, in my eyes, was a good pharaoh. But honestly think about it--he must have forced so many to conform to his ways right? Kind of like a dictatorship. Imagine all the priests who worshiped Amun and how they must have been forced to change their ways--we know how people fight over religion today--so what do you all think Akhenaten was like..i don't think he was a peaceful being...would love to hear from you all.

The main aim of Akhenaton was to reappropriate of power from the priests of Amon, who were incredibly mighty in that period. His father already tried before him, creating Malqata probably, but Akhenaton was more assertive. He actually erased (or at least tried to) the prerogatives of the Amon priests and, proclaming the Aton as superior god and declaring that whatever dialogue with the god was personal apanage of the pharao, he took control of the contry back in his hands. This really shortly! |
