It seems Egyptians used methods other than conventional mummification. I am reading EGYPT – How a lost civilization was rediscovered by Joyce Tyldesley.

It includes an account by a 12th century traveller who says a credible person told him how his party was searching near the pyramids and found a tightly sealed pot of honey which they started to eat. One of the party found a hair on his finger and pulled it revealing a well preserved small infant!
