Looking at what's been found shows that the Egyptians never gave up, with their burials. We can see that there are destoyed remains of mummies that must have been there when later burials took place, so they knew it was very likely that the same thing would happen with the newer burials. Yet the rituals to preserve the bodies - and ensure eternal life - persisted over many centuries. In the film it does appear there are some intact mummies, especially of course the one in the sarcophagus. But as the priests laid mummies to rest amid the wreckage of previous burials, I wonder if they ever had questioning thoughts, namely that if preserving the body really was vital for eternal life many of them would be in trouble.

That's a very good question, and one I have often asked myself. When you think of the sudden mysterious deaths of some pharaohs, you have to wonder if the murderers really believed in the afterlife and the weighing of the heart.

It's hard to think that they would have carried out their crimes if they believed in judgement in the afterlife. I suppose it might have been the same as today, with not everyone believing and even some of those who follow religious customs unsure if they really believe in it. Of course we can never know what the ordinary Ancient Egyptians really thought and believed in because they are not here to tell us but I do believe that although times change, human nature doesn't.

That's absolutely true.

I think if you knew the right spells you could fool the weighing of the heart.
