Well, no one knows for sure if Tut was murdered or not. He was the son (Supposedly) of Akhenaten, who had the people go from worshiping many gods to worshiping one, the Aten, or sun disk. So he was very much disliked.
Tutankhamen's name was originally Tutankhaten. He changed it to Tutankhamun soon after coming to the throne at the age of 9. He also moved the capital from Akhetaten, the city of the Aten, to Thebes, the city of Amun and the former capital of the country. He also allowed everyone to worship the old gods again. All of this probably occured because of the power behind the throne. Tutankhamen was young and, of course, wasn't expected to rule the country by himself. Even older and more experience Pharaohs recieved help from Viziers and high counselors. So, who knows, maybe if the high officials hadn't interviened the cult of the Aten would have continued for some time.
Tutankhamen only ruled for 10 years. Since he died at such a young age, that of 18 or 19, many people think he was murdered. X-Rays of Tutankhamen's scull made in the 60's show that he suffered a possibly-fatal blow to the back of the head. As of yet we do not know if he died because of this. The Egyptian Government will not allow further x-rays or tests at this point in time.
But who are the possible suspects? Tutankhamen may have had many enemies, being the son of the most hated Pharaoh of all time. It could have been Aye, the former Vizier of Akhenaten and the Vizier of Tutankhamen as well. Could it have been Horemheb, cheif of the army? He had been a close associate of AKhenaten. he may have also had a deep hatred of the boy Pharaoh.
Then some think that it could have been his wife, Ankhsenamun. Somehow I see this as highly unlikely.
Aye is the most plausible suspect. He was in the right position, he was of the royal family (Father of Queen Nefertiti and Brother of Queen Tye) and so would have inherited the throne. Aye became the next Pharaoh after Tutankhamen. That's why he's the most likely suspect.
Horemheb had the chance, but didn't go for the throne when he had the chance, although he did become the Pharaoh after Aye.
Ankhsenamun wasn't mentioned after Tutankhamen's death, so no one knows what became of her, her mummy has as of yet not been unearthed or identified.
For more information on this subject, read, "The Murder of Tutankhamen" by Bob Brier and the most recent edition of TIME magazine.

Thanks for returning my questions, but what about nefertiti. Do you have any info on her dissapearence? And why is Aye the most suspected murderer of Tut? The most info I have now is that Aten or Nefertiti killed him. Besides, why would nefertiti dissapear if she had'nt killed Tut? Return my questions as soon as possible. Thank you. |

Actually, Akhenaten couldn't have killed Tutankhamen. He had died four years before Tut even started ruling! Nefertiti actually dissapeared during Akhenaten's reign, so we don't know if she died or what, but that was also before Tutankhamen's rule. Some think that Nefertiti did something that made Akhenaten hate her, and so she was banished. This happened soon after Tutankhamen was born. After Nefertiti dissapeared, Smenkhkare appeared, which leads some archaeologists to believe that Nefertiti changed her name and became co-rejent with Akhenaten, whole still others think that Smenkhkare is Akhenaten's eldest son by Kiya.
Archaeologists also think that the mysterious Pharaoh Neferneferaten, who ruled for a short time after Akhenaten and before Smenkhkare, could have been Nefertiti, but some still believe that it was Smenkhkare under a different name. After that we have absolutely no knowlede of Nefertiti being around at all (Unless there's some new discovery that I don't know about).
Aye is the most likely suspect because he was Tutankhamen's Vizier, the highest position you could recieve besides Priests or Pharaoh, and was a relative of Tutankhamen. So if Tutankhamen was killed and didn't have an heir to the throne, they he would have been the next in line to rule. So Aye would have killed Tutankhamen because he wanted the power. That's one of the only reasons that Horemheb isn't the main suspect. He had the chance to seize the throne, but he didn't. So if he had killed Tut, then it was for resons as yet unknown today.
I hope this helps,

P.S. Is this info. for a case you're working on? |

Didn't she disapear around Year 24 shortly after the dedication of the Abu Simbel temple. It shows and enthroned Neferatri and 'Queen' Meritamun taking over her role as Queen.

Oh, wait...
Are you talking about Nefertari????? She was the wife of Ramses II of the 19th Dynasty and has absolutely nothing to do with Tutankhamen. Akhenaten didn't even rule for 24 years! Only for 17 or so, and Tut only for 10.
Sorry for the mix-up if you wanted info. on Nefertari, I can find some if you like, I don't know much about that time.

| Thanks for the offer but have more than enough information on Nefertiti, Nefertari and most other royal queens, daughters and sisters. That's my speciality for want of a better expression. The royal women of ancient egypt although I love all of it. |

Yes, this is info on the mystery I'm working on. Was Aye like a brother or something because you mentioned that he was a relitive of Tut. Is there anybody else that is a possible suspect? And also, do you have a picture of heirogliphs? The other possible suspect I have is Tiy, she was highly questionable. Tiy overshadows Nefertiti in almost all early accounts of Akhenatens reign. |

Aye was the son of Yuya and Thuya; Yuya was an official for Amunhotep III, Akhenaten's father. Aye was alos the brother of Queen Tye, wife of Amunhotep III. Aye was the father of Nefertiti (Supposedly, it hasn't been proven for certain yet). So By being the brother and father of two queens related to Tut, he was, technically, royal.
From all records yet discovered, we believe that Queen Tye died during the reign of Akhenaten, so she wouldn't have been around to kill King Tut.
What kind of hieroglyphics would you like? The cartouches of Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Tutankhamen or others? The hieroglyphics on the walls of Tut's tomb? Or just hieroglyphics in general? I can get you whatever you like, I found a book with lots of clear pictures of hieroglyphs and I can scan them onto my computer for you to look at, or I can give you the titles of the books.

Well, that is an idea, I have never heard that before. But no one knows what happened to Nefertiti, she just kinda fell of the face of the earth and was never heard of or spoken of again.
I scanned a picture of Tutankhamen's cartouche, you can go and see it at

I will try to find one. But I'm leaving for a trip Sunday morning and won't be back for a week. So if I don't find it by tomorrow night, I'll have to send it when I get back, unless someone else can help you.
I will look though my books, and sorry if I can't find it by tomorrow. But I'll try hard!
