I also have Gardiner's grammar, but without a teacher to aid me on the more daunting excersises I believe that its usefulness as a stand-alone learning guide is limited.
Collier and Manley's book however (despite being called the best book on the subject) is far too concise! It teaches virtually no grammar, and whilst it does teach the 'formulae' that can give the illusion of you being a master of hieroglyphs, I doubt that anyone who learnt from it alone would know their weak verbs from their strong verbs, and their specific present from their standard present.
Can you recommend anything? _________________

Hieroglyphs for Everyone by Joseph & Lenore Scott
Heiroglyphs of Ancient Egypt by Aidan Dodson
There's one book I want to get that just came to number one on my wishlist of Egypt books yesterday. It's Ramesside, Inscriptions and Translations. $227 at Barnes and Noble. I found it cheaper somewhere else. _________________

Thanks bel- is only reinforces what I said on the Dude! thread about Ma'at being pronounced Mahrt, (to rhyme with art and Bart):
Loprieno (p. 31) points out that 3 (aleph) corresponds to an r in Semitic languages and so, for an uncertain period of Egyptian history, may have been some version of an r ("a uvular trill") in Egyptian- a modern 'ah' sound as well as the glottal stop.
This could help me in my dicussion with Osiris II. Thanks! _________________

We make a good team! Thanks for all of your help- I do like it when people are friendly rather than argumentative *cough- Osiris II!*

| I'm sorry if you think of our discussion as an arguement--I considered it to be only an interesting debate. If I've offended you--hurt your feelings--I'm very sorry. |

You like doing that don't you!
Whenever I try to make some sort of jokey comment you always crush it don't you Ramsekh. It really is quite unkind, but I suppose it is quite funny.

Well, ****. If I'm being annoying tell me. I keep losing friends because they don't tell me I'm annoying before it's too late. _________________

I think that you are pretty friendly. One of things about forums for me is that as I can only say a few things each day I don't make a complete ass out of myself.
At least I haven't yet! _________________
