|
|
I've been researching this as i'm an aspiring writer about to set my next book in Ancient Egypt. There is hardly ANY adult fiction in the UK set in AE, the historical books are all set in Rome, or are medieval or bodice rippers. I've found only a couple of authors, with the help of staff in Waterstones and WH Smith - Paul Doherty and Christian Jacq - and i wondered why this is? I mean, AE is a really popular era of history for kids fiction...
Cheers.

| Not really. Its is incredibly hard to find anything really involving Ancient Egypt, let alone set in it. |

It's the same with movies. It's time we had a new, movie set in ancient Egypt. Preferably one that doesn't have Cleopatra in! |

| Yup. There was one good book set in mostly Ancient Egypt. I only read the last one in the series, but I liked it. And I generally dont like to read series, especially out of order. |

Thanks, Sitra
It is strange, though isn't it? I mean, it's the ultimate escapism surely, i'd have thought it would be really popular. |

The Winter 2007 edition of our Egypt society magazine had an article on crime novels set in ancient Egypt.
She listed
Lieutenant Bak by Lauren Haney - 8 books
Lord Meren - Lynda Robinson - 6
Amerotke - Paul Doherty - 6
Egyptian mysteries - Paul Doherty - 3
Huy the Scribe - Anton Gill - 3
plus Death comes as the end by Agatha Christie |

Thanks for that Tnrees. I have acutally just bought one by Paul Doherty, but i'll have a look at the others.
Crime seems to be the order of the day for AE fiction. Very little romance or sagas or humour.
