Yeah, that's what was said in a documentary I saw on Nefertiti. They said that Egyptians had to carve wings onto the sides of the sarcophagus in order for it to be worthy of a (male) pharaoh, in this case, King Tut.

I heard that the second coffin was originally Smenkhkare's. (Which could then lead to the pesky "was Smenkhkare Nefertiti?" debate...)

I think it was the second coffin Tut was buried in that wasn't his own...even the face of it didn't look like Tut.

I think the egyptian antiquities have established fairly well that the coffin he was burried in wasn't originally his but they were only speculating as to whom it originally belonged to.
