Welcome. Odd she was the only pharoah that was not Egyptian she was Greek.

All the Ptolemies were Macedonian - I think some snobbish Greeks would have classed them as semi barbarians.

It wasn't so much that the Egyptians allowed it.
Egypt was occupied by Alexander the Great, and made a dependent of his empire. When Alexander died, one of his men named Ptolomy took control of the Egyptian civilization. He and his children ruled, until the death of Cleopatra VII, at which time Egypt became a vassal-state of the Roman Empire.

yea but they went by Egyptian rules and here family was Pharaohs for a long time so I consider her a true Egyptian but her name is Greek

It is generaly belived that Cleopatra VII was the only one of her family who could speak Egyptian - after about 300 years & they complain about us English not learning foreign languages!

She was Greek by descent, language and culture, and is said to have been the first member of her family in their 300-year reign in Egypt to have learned the Egyptian language.

She was the only one who learned the Egyptian language.....and that is true Tnrees,i think everyone should know now how to speck English in America((where i am)) but no Spanish is one of the main languages here and like now you can't get a job unless you know how to speck it.... Sad

Queen Cleopatra of Egypt is the most well known of all the ancient egyptian queens. Cleopatra was born in Alexandria in 69 B.C. during the reign of the Ptolemy family to Ptolemy XII. Cleopatra appears to have been a popular name in the family, as her mother bore the name as well as an older sister, making the new daughter Cleopatra the Seventh,

Her daughter Cleopatra Selene married king Juba and were set up as roman allied rulers of Roman Mauritania (modern Algeria).Not much is known of her but she seems to have been an active & effective ruler.
Zenobia of Palyra claimed to be descended from her.
