Please don't double post again. Wait patiently for a few days to get a response to any questions. There isn't a lot of traffic on KTO so it may take a while to get your answer. Thanks.

Try this site: http://members.tripod.com/anubis4_2000/Bookmarks.htm

It has photographs of mummies as well as descriptions. It's quite interesting.

For as far as books go:
Dodson and Ikram wrote a book about mummification (I haven't read it but I have heard from reliable sources that it is very good).

I did read the book by Smith about the royal mummies. This is an old text from the early 20th century, but it is quite interesting to read.

[You should be able to do a search on amazon.com and find more info about each book there.]

Death and burial is my favorite subject, so perhaps I can offer some suggestions. Very Happy

Aidan Dodson and Salima Ikram's book is The Mummy in Ancient Egypt. This is one of the most comprehensive texts you'll find on Egyptian mummification and burial, but it does presume that you have at least a moderate understanding of ancient Egyptian death and burial. I highly recommend it.

Ikram wrote her own book, Death and Burial in Ancient Egypt, that I really enjoyed. She's fast becoming a favorite Egyptologist of mine. This book is accessible to all levels of students of ancient Egypt.

I should also mention one by Carol Andrews called Egyptian Mummies. This is a rather small and concise book that I was hesitant to buy at first, but I was glad I did. For its size it sure is packed full of educational information.

Already a classic is Bob Brier's Egyptian Mummies : Unraveling the Secrets of an Ancient Art. Brier is one of the foremost experts in this field and almost always a good read.

I'll also recommend Christine El Mahdy's Mummies, Myth and Magic in Ancient Egypt. She's also a favorite writer of mine and is very easy to read and understand.

These are just some of the books I have in my own library at home, and I could go on and on, but I don't want to subject you to mummy overload! Most (if not all) of these titles should be available through local public libraries. I believe this is the book which Merytre-Hatshepsut recommended (Smith's The Royal Mummies). I don't have this one yet but she's mentioned it to me before, and I'll most likely purchase it; it seems stuffed full of very useful information and technical data. You can see by this link that the book was recently revised, too (that's always a plus).

I cannot read enough about this subject myself, Living Dead, and I hope this is of some assistance to you. Let me know if I can do anything more. Wink

Yes, that's the one. Note though that if you go to David Brown Books you can get the book for $12.98 (not $45 as listed on amazon )

Go to http://www.oxbowbooks.com/

A search on "royal mummies" will get you to the right page.

This site is amazing. They have a wonderful selection of books, and some of their sales are great opportunities to add on to ones collection Wink

Well, duh, there I go again. I didn't even think to check Oxbow. Merytre-Hatshepsut's right--this site is a great resource for all fields of ancient Egyptian study. Lots of good deals here. Very Happy
