The Theban Mapping Project is offing a tour, led by Kent Weeks, this September. The high-light of the tour will be a visit to the (not open to the public) excavation work being done by Weeks at KV5, the tomb of Rameses II's sons in the Valley of The Kings, Cairo Museum, a cruise up the Nile to Aswan and a cruise on Lake Nassar to Abu Simble.
I am seriously considering going, but I am slightly handicapped and wondering if I would be able to cope. I've e-mailed Dr. Weeks, and he responded, daying that he thought I would be able to handle the tour with no problem. It's quite expensive (13 days, $3000 U. S. Dollars) but the tour of KV5 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! And at my age, there isn't many more opportunities ahead for me!
Has anyone else heard about it, and is considering going? I'd love to experience it with someone on KTO! If you are thinking about it, PM me, and we'll talk!

A long time ago, I took several classes from Kent Weeks when he was teaching at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a no-bullshit guy, and he wouldn't mislead you about the tour just to take your money: If he says you can handle it, you can handle it. Furthermore, and if you've been to Egypt you already know this, Egyptians are much more courteous than the average American to people who are elderly or have some kind of disability.

I was thinking seriously about going, but I've decided to pass it up this year. I am slightly disabled, and thinking about walking around is difficult for me. I wrote to Kent Weeks, and he said that he felt I would be able to take the tour all right, I still decided not to do it this year mainly because of the cost. $3000 for 13 days seems very high to me. Last time I was in Egypt, I spent $4000, but I stayed for a month. I was not on a tour, and being on one with a group of people also wasa discouraging thought to me.
The biggest thing I regret is giving up the opportunity to see KV5. Being led in by Dr. Weeks is a one in a lifetime opportunity, and I regret turning that down a great deal. But, physically, I just do not think I am up to it.

I understand your mood Osiris; some time ago I finished reading Kent Weeks's book The lost tomb, and the impression I had was to be with Weeks and his équipe working inside KV5... Crying or Very sad
