Hey!! Im starting to look out for Universities that have a huge variety of courses in the departments of archaeology/egyptology. Canada is out on my list, but I am really hoping to go to England. I've done some research on many universities there, and have come up with Durham, and Cambridge as two that I am interested in. Does any one know of a university in the States, or England that offers this? (One that really sticks out, or one that you know of from experience). If you could give me any ideas, that would be awsume!! Razz

hi- yea i am doing the same thin gas you and looking for universties. the ones that i found (and i dont know where they are sry- but i think this one is in englan) is the Oxford University. the website is www.admissions.ox.ac.uk/courses/41.shtml
another one was UCL and i dunno where it is sry- the website is http://www.ucl.ac.uk.shtml

hey, thanks for the post! I have looked into Oxford too, but since it's one of the 'HUGE' universities, each person who is wanting to apply there must go through this whole interview thing.

I am not ABSOLUTELY sure, but I think that the Oriental Institute of Chicago, IL, has Egyptological courses, but I'm not sure how many.

UCL is for University College London, which is based in Gower Street in the West End. It's a nice lloking place, alas I went to Uni elsewhere so couldn't say if it's any good or not.

The University of Pennsylvania has an Egyptianology program.
Dr. Donald Redford a most important Egyptianologist conducted course work there. Dr. Zahi Hawass recieved his Doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania as well.

Dr. K.A. Kitchen another famous Egyptianologist teaches/taught at the University of Mississippi, so you might like to check out Ol' Miss.

Emory University at Atlanta has Dr. Gay Robbins teaching and a large Egyptian section at its museum so you might want to check out Emory's archaeology department.

Yes that is true. But I still really want to go to University of Leicester. That would be sooo cool to go to school in England! Too bad I dont live there, they have free schooling. Which is a brilliant idea by the way, the price for college is ridiculous. 1/4 the people who dont go maybe more is because how much it costs. No wonder English people are so smart.

I am Ebglish so I know a bit about those places. As for saying Oxford is one of the "HUGE" universities that everyone wants to go to, weel it is but so is Cambridge, just as much. Durham is a complete dive, I really would not go anywhere near it unless you really have to. Leciester wouldn't be bad but you are a long way from any really good museums/bookshops. I would say the UCL, it is next door to the British Museum, has the Flinders Petrie Museum of Egypt, and is surrounded by world class bookshops specialising in history. You are also minutes away from Oxford Street, Soho, Trafalgar Square and a 15 minute walk from Buckingham Palace and Green Park. They have their own accomodation and really excellent local facilities. You need to be able to speak either french or german though, to quite a high standard for admission.
