It is believed that pyramids evolved from the mastaba constuction (mudbrick) of earlier tombs and the Egyptians began to stack the mastaba resulting in the pyramid formation. They also linked the pyramids to the cardinal points and belived the pyramid image was a symbol of the rays of the sun (or so I'm told) and therefore Ra. However, the mastaba tombs had hieroglyphics that seems not to of been repeated in later times and larger structures. Any ideas as to why?

Yes, the pyramids DID in fact get formed from laying Mestabas on top of each other. Then, after they had created the step pyramids, they started making smooth ones with pointed tops; the pyramids as we know them today. The architect who designed them was proclaimed a god.

Thanks, I did know that they formed into step pyramids such as that of Djoser designed by Imhotep. Do you know who the designer was for the Giza pyramids?
I have since seen images from inside the Giza pyramids with relief carvings. I didn't know there were such ingravings in the pyramids. Has anyone been there? I guess alot of the relief may have been chipped off it had been plastered.
