....Emff..... ahh.. er..................
I'LL JOIN THE AKHETNATEN FAN CLUB!! I love that crazy guy. He reshaped Egyptian culture for a time!
....Now, I really didn't read above this page, so what is this about an Akhetnaten fan club??
..Also.. is it Akhetnaten, or Akhenaten? I'm notorious for getting things wrong, or mixed up. _________________ "Does anyone ever truly think 'outside' of the box, or are they merely expanding the possibilities of what that box can hold to suit their own agenda?"

He has written 5, so be sure to get the "Egypt" edition. |
I can't say I'm familiar with Giles. I don't seem to have anything by him in my own library, but I found the Alibris link for the book you're recommending, I believe. Giles would seem to be in a clear minority here; most of the biggies in the field have abandoned Amunhotep III as a potential father for Tut. It's just not likely when you carefully examine the situation. But what's the point of scholarly pursuit if one closes his mind to possibilities, right? It's certainly worth the read. I'll see if there's a copy in the glacierly slow system of the Chicago Public Library because that price at Alibris is prohibitive. Ouch!
Thanks for the heads-up, Osiris II.
As for the rest of you folks, what's with this Akhenaten club? Where are the meetings? If I join, do I have to get an Aten tattoo and learn a secret handshake? Do we rotate on who brings the snacks?
Where do I sign up?

Well, Unas, as for the spelling for the name of the heritic king, it's Akhenaten (akhnitn), which means something akin to "Beneficient to the Aten," though you're likely to find a different translation in every other book. _________________

I just checked Amazon, and they have it in paperback for $75.00
When I bought it at Amazon about 1 year ago, I paid $15.00. Quite a difference! It's really a good book, though. He goes into great detail in describing KV 55 and his opinion of the burial there. His opinion of the co-regency is very astute!
What I like about the book is his bibliography--he uses Murnane, (whose own opinion agreed with a co-regency) Englebach, Reeves and others that aew well-known. I hope you can find it at you library--it's really a well studied and well presented book. |

Yeah, kmt, the Akhenaten Fan club is a club dedicated to Akhenaten and the Aten. Yes, you have to get an Aten tattoo, and YES, you will be the first to bring snacks for the "Snack Rotation".
And I still believe that Akhenaten is Tut's DAD, I'm sorry, but it's a strong belief that I've had since I first read on Akhenaten!!
Oh, by the way, kmt, the Easter Bunny wants a word with you about his shoes. He's gone hopping mad!! _________________

The 'Akhenaten Fan Club' was one of my stupid jokes, but... well, why can't it be a real club, eh? Website, newsletter and free Akhenaten stuff... Cool! _________________ http://belldandy.freeblog.hu --> my blog site |

Lostris, we should include that club WITH our Art site as well...then we'd have a whole section dedicated to Akhenaten, with pictures that people drew, and information, and polls...I can SEE it now!! It'll be so AWESOME!! _________________

What about sections dedicated for all big pharaohs/queens? Oh, I'm very CREATIVE now! That's cooooool! _________________ http://belldandy.freeblog.hu --> my blog site |

I wonder if that's really the correct price? I've had the same experience as you. Books I've bought for 20 bucks or so show up at Amazon with prices like $150.00. I'll bet they have some bugs in their system. It does sound like a good read. I'll have to see if the library has it, but I wasn't kidding about how slow the Chicago Public Library is. Several years ago I put my name on the list for Gardiner's Egyptian Grammar, and stopped inquiring about it about a year later. By then a good friend at our museum gave me an extra copy he had.

Snacks it is, then. I'll bring bread, beer, and the choicest cuts of oxen with some fowl thrown in. And why apologize for believing Akhenaten was Tut's father? That's the leading theory.
Now, were you to say that you believe Tut's father was one of the aliens or Atlanteans who founded Egypt...well, then you'd have something to apologize for!
Oh, and about the Easter Bunny, tell him to mind his own business. And tell him I bought a shotgun. I don't want any trouble with that big ol' fur ball. _________________
