The curse of Tutankhamen was just a ploy by a newspaper-man covering the excavation of Tut's tomb. He was trying to get an interesting "angle" to sell more papers. It suceeded, with amazing results!
There was supposedly a papyrus found in the tomb that said "death comes on swift wings to those who violate this tomb." There were NO papyrus found in the tomb, there was NO insciption of a curse there.
After the excavation, any death of a person even remotely associated with the dig (his brother's sister's aunt's son-in-law was in the tomb) was claimed to be the result of a curse. |

That's not to say that there aren't Egyptian curses. I once translated the lintels from the Tomb of Meni, which reads:
"Words spoken by the elder of the house of Meni: 'A Crocodile against him in the water. A snake against him on land to He who does things against that
same one (I didn't fully understand this sentence!). At no time did I do anything against him. It is God who will weigh the truths (i.e judge)." _________________

I know it's true that there ARE curses in many tombs--I recall Hawass reading one that was on a tomb in Sakkara in a TV special.
But the curse from Tut's tomb just did not exist. |
