I am doing a dissertation about Ancient Egyptian Ethnicity, especially that of Senusret III and was wondering if there were any books that could be recommended? I am especially persuaded by the Afro-centric interpretation (that Ancient Egyptians were Africans displaced by tides of invasions by Greeks, Arabs etc later) but any books or websites will do!
Thanks for our help |

Well, according to me you shouldn't start with one fixed idea about how they should have been...Nubia has always been in southern Egypt and it is not true that Egypt is equal to Nubia....before looking for a particular book telling you what you want to be told, you should look for a simple table of the dynasties which have ruled in Egypt. Tha't a very long period of more that 3000 years during which a lot of things have changed, including the "kind" of people governing...this, plus trade and other reasons have had a big influence on the race...if you wish to talk about races...if you just look at a map you'll see that the old kingdom was covering a huge and very long (north to south) territory, including of course a great variety of races, composing ancient egypt. The well-known Ramses II was surely not a Nubian, for example.... |

Thanks for that maatkara!
I will take your advice and look for a table of dynasties although my reservation is that many such tables are clouded by Eurocentric veneers/distortions (such as the nonsense that claims that ancient Egyptians derived from early Romans!) indeed even without such blatant European historical 'revision' it is known that several Pharoahs had different (more 'African') names although the ones (selectively) recorded in such tables are invariably names implying Arab descent. Nevertheless I am sure i can learn as much from the omissions as from more honestly compiled tables! And no, it is not that I am sceptical about all Egyptology.. its just (consciously or unconsciously) successive generations of Egyptologists have stood on the shoulders of flawed past giants to reach their conclusions...therefore, to fully appreciate the REAL history of ancient Egypt one needs to delve behind the current miseducation.
And, I do agree that Nubia was always South of Egypt but since Egypt (and Nubia) was part of the Ancient Ethiopian empire the distinction between Nubia and Egypt really was made later on after tides of invasion, rape etc had diluted the 'authentic' Egyptians and created another class of Arab and African mullatto mixture who identified themselves as racially distinct and whom 'history' his attributed early Egyptian feats. 'Nubain' therefore came to signify black Africans and 'Egyptians' were similar to the race we associate with living in Egypt now.
and yeah.. Rames II was not Nubian but the great Nefertari certainly was!

Oh my goodness, could we not go through all of this again? I am sick to death of this sodding topic resurfacing again and again, could we just let it drop. Last time this happened everyone was accused of rascism, insults were exchanged and everyone left angry and miserable. As far as I am concerned I will go on standing on those "giants" until you proove that the pharaohs were black. In the mummy room in Cairo Museum I dont actually remember seeing many black mummys labelled as a king or queen. Infact they ALL looked rather Arab, with Arabic noses and heekbones and skin tone. On top of that all of the paintings of the royals show a family that is arab in its colouring (and in the case of Nefertari even pale!). Please, I ask you to find me a shred of evidence to say that Nefertari was anything but Semitic/Arabic.
Also for your claim of Egypt being Part of the Ethiopean Empire I would go back to your books. As far as I know the EGYPTIAN Empire covered huge tracts of land in Africa which included many black peoples and for a relatively few years we have evidence showing that Egypt was ruled by black pharaohs. Until that evidence is extended to include the whole of Egyptian History I will carry on beleiving what the evidence shows me, not what people desperate to shake up forums and promote causes best left to the modern era. If you want to promote a cause then please limit it to at least recent history, there are greater things to fight for than re-writing what appears to be an accurate histroy. Let me give you some ideas if you are stuck....
- Civil Rights across the globe for racial equality.
- It is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgendered month, promote equality!
- Help some victims from the Tsunami by sending some money or helping raise some!
There are dozens of causes out there, get involved! Look what happened to Matthew Sheppard a few years ago, isn't a better idea to combat people like those that ttacked him? Look at the Civil Rights crisis going on in Africa at the moment, please dont waste our time and your own time by leading us into a tar pit where we have all been buried before. thanks hun!
