That's one thing I find puzzling about forums such as this. Unless Hawass is a relative, why be offended by someone's open critique of a public figure? A lot of expended energy and anger over a simple debate...is it really worth it?
You don't find Hawass to be enthusiastic? I think he's very enthusiastic. And I wouldn't dismiss his credentials too quickly. Though Hawass is a controversial figure, he's been a practicing archaeologist since the late 1960s and a Ph.D. for some twenty years. He's well proven in his field and an expert in the studies of ancient Egypt.
At present, though, I doubt he does much field work anymore. He's no longer a grunt but the leader of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. It's hard to imagine how many responsibilities and pressures he has. I think he's a terrific spokesman for Egypt, and his enthusiasm for his country's heritage is plain to see.
So, anyway, you're definitely going for Egyptology professionally? That's exciting. Had I the chance to live life over, I think I'd do the same. I take what professional classes I can, especially for the study of hieroglyphs, but I'll never be a professional Egyptologist. I wish you the best. Any schools in mind? Just curious. _________________

Aw, Kmt....*Hugs Kmt* You get a huuug!!
Anyway, You can live forever...all you have to do is freeze yourself for a period of time, and then wake up in another time period, and if Egypt is still standing in the future, then you can be an Egyptologist as well!! I sound like a pathetic dreamer, huh?
But yeah, I plan to go to the University of Tampa here in Florida, cause they have a NEW course on Egyptology!!! I've never been happier. and thanks for wishing me luck, Kmt, I'll need it if I'll be working in Akhetaten!! My mission--to finally prove Tut and Akhenaten are father and son, and have it UNIVERSALLY accepted!! *Poses!!* .... I can dream, can't I??!!
Kmt, just remember, you're never too old to be young!! Look at my dad, for example...he's 40, 6'5'', 250 LBS., and he rides rollar coasters at either Disney or Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure whenever we go!! Actually, it was HE who introduced me to rides, and I'm a rollar coaster tycoon because of him!!
And by the way, I respect Hawass and all, and I never personally said he wasn't enthusiastic...someone else had said it, and I doubted it, because he is dedicated to his work, and he IS admirable....I just hope he's not in it for the money!! THAT'S what I meant to say!! _________________
