Ancient Egypt was a near eastern power. The idea that Egyptians were black Africans has been long since put to bed. _________________ Horemheb |

Egypt is still technically part of Africa and for a long while it was ruled by black Africans so do a little research before you perform the opening of the mouth ceremony and lay that one to rest! lol _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

Let's not start a racial debate!
I belong to another site, and it used to be a place for interesting information and stimulating debates. But slowly, it bacame a "stomping ground" for those intent on "proving" that the Egyptians were a completely black race. The Afrocentrists took over the chat-room. No matter what subject was started, the discussion soon became lost in racial rantings. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would agree that the Egyptians were a mixed race, but, according to the Afrocentrists on one hand and the Eurocentrists on the other, they were either black or white. But this couldn't be agreed on, and I watched the chat-room deteriorate into a soap-box for radical thinking.
Let's not go that way! Please!! |

I'm with you there Osirus. We both know what happened to the Egyptsearch forum. Every once in a while I pop on and it just amazes me that it still continues. _________________

I was referring to Egyptsearch, but did not use the name!
I tried complaining to the moderator about the racial debates, but it seemed as if he was one of the biggest offenders. So now, I just check in ocassionally, and make no comments.
It's sad, really. When I first discovered Egyptsearch, I thought "Wow! A wonderful place to advance my knowledge." Was I wrong! |

You guys are 100% correct. Actually, I wasn't trying to start a new thread but was replying to the King Tuts face thing and hit the wrong button. We should obstain from the race thing and if our leaders will control it we will be fine. By all means, go ahead and delete this thread and any others that show up....including 'King Tuts Face.' _________________ Horemheb |

I am not sure how relevant this is (Sorry Osiris II that I was so rude earlier- I feel awful!) but the shabti figures and workmen models of the tombs in Egypt show tanned skinned workers performing most tasks. The Pharaohs and officials are usually Tanned, not Black.
However the Nubians and Negroes of Lower Egypt shown in paintings and models are black. The famous warriors of the south shown in statues and paintings are black almost always. I would suggest that this indicates that lower egyptians were tanned- like the people of Arabia and Asia Minor, whilst those from what is now Sudan were black. Ths seems to make sense.
Also, it was the delta area and lower Egypt in which the most 'intermingling' occured, and thus the majority of entirely white people lived there- resulting in tanned offspring who would inevitably migrate further south. When you say were the Egyptians balck, I believe that generalising over a such a huge country is impossible.
Does that sound possible? _________________

A couple people have asked that question to me so I just said, "No the Nubians were." _________________

I think with Egypt being such a big empire and for so long, it was probably a melting pot of African and Mediteranean culture _________________ Yea, Im gonna need you to come in on Sunday... |

Why do people think that things have changed so much in the short (comparatively) time since the Pharaohs? I do not think that the race of people in Britain has changed too much in the last 2000 years. The only countries I can think of where there has been a large change are the USA and in Southern America (e.g. Argentina, Columbia). Why would Egypt have suddenly had a mass immigration (of which we know nothing about)? _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

Yes, we are not talking about an influx of hundreds of thousands, maybe millions. Immigration like that hasn't really happened before the immigration to the USA. Yes, of course a lot of Greeks traveled but Alexandria was:
a) populated with a lot of Egyptians as well as Greeks.
b) one of many huge cities in Egypt.
c) not even considered part of Egypt at all whilst under the Ptolemies. _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

Egypt has been a cooking pot of different cultures. You draw a comparison between Egypt and England, but the people of England before the Nordic invasions were significantly different from us now, and in Egypt the invasions were far more dramatic.
England has gone from being a largely Aryan (used in the Nordic, fair-haired sense rather than the correct use- an Indo-European person) country to a largely European country. Our people are closer in appearance to the French rather that the Swedish largely because of the European influences of the 11th century.
I agree however that it is very difficult to draw generalisiations as Egypt was so very big, and races don't chance overnight, unless you commit genocide. _________________
