|
|
| I have a friend who is auditioning for supposedly an "upcoming big budget movie about akhenaten." I've searched all over to try to find out more news, but I haven't found anything yet. I guess it is still in the early stages, as it sounds like they are still ltrying to find actors. Has anyone else heard about this? |

If the story is good then the movie should be alright since Roland Emmerich is directing it. He directed Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow which were pretty good movies. _________________

| actually, I had already heard of the king tut movie, and asked him if that was it, but he said no - it's only about akhenaten, his life and death. |

| So I talked to him again to find out more about it. He says he hasn't seen a full script, but from what he's heard they are trying to make a movie about the life of akhenaten and his attempt at monotheism. Supposedly, they are trying to stay as close to being historically accurate as possible - I don't know if that just means no aliens, or how much research they've done. But it's a hard story to tell, since no one really knows. I am very excited about this, so I told him to find out more if he can. Next time I run into him I'll try to pry more info out. |

On some CD-Rom encyclopedia it mentions Ikhnaton, another name for Akhenaten. What's the meaning of this name? _________________

The hieroglyphic alphabet has little or no vowel sounds, we add them in for convinience. That is why there are so many spelling variations.
e.g. Tutankhamun. Tutankhamen
Amun, Amen
Akhenaten, Ikenaten, Akhnaten, Ikhnaton, Ikhnaten _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

There are certain rules given to vowel sounds that we use for some kind of cerrelation but these are disputed. For example, the woman married to Ay was called either Tey (as I use it) or sometimes Tiy. Tiy isn't used as much because she was the sister-in-law of Queen Tiy and also the step mother of Queen Tiy's daughter-in-law. There is a lot of times like this when a vowel is changed to avoid confusion between two people. _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

I hate to interupt, but the first i in names is often translated as an I.
Thus Inpw becomes Anubis, Iknaten becomes Akhenaten and Itn becomes Aten. Older Egyptology books still refer to Akhenaten as Ikhnaton and the Aten as the Iten. This is perfectly O.K as the transliteration of hieroglyphs are debateable.
Oh, and Tutankhamun is twt-ankh-imn
I have been studying hieroglyphs for quite a while now- they are sooo fun!
I see myself as quite good at them now. I can read most basic sentences, know four or five formulae and can read the titulary of most of thr Pharaohs. I posted a question on hieroglyphs on Egypt Trivia III! Neb-Maat-Re hasn't answered it so I'm quite dissapointed- anyone else who does hieroglyphs should check it out. _________________

I think your friend is lying. Im pretty sure that he is simply trying to wind you up. Maybe you should try researching on AltaVista.com, which is very good. And Psusennes I, you talk random gibbersih whichh isn't really related to the topic at all. I think you try to tlak so much to hide the fact that you are socially insecure. Am I correct?
Im sure somebody agrees with me on this, Helitheces.
P.S. Your translations are slightly incorrect, please recheck

I think that you should recheck your sources, Helitheces. I am sure that mine are indeed correct.
lol
Helethices is a friend of mine- trust him to try and prove me wrong!
I assure you that I am completely correct- he's just trying to wind me up. He's done it in all the other conversations that he has so rudely interupted, and the whole french thing is a stupid joke from school!
Stop it P! _________________
