Who's your favorite Queen of Egypt? If It's not listed, post a message and tell us who you think is your favorite Queen. Also, please tell why the Queen you chose was your favorite, regardless of whether she was one of the choices or not.
I am sorry if the queen whom you think is worthy of the title of best queen wasn't on the list. _________________ -Akhenaten- |

I have voted for Cleopatra because I think she get's a raw deal from amateur historians. Portrayed as a temptress and a whore when in reality there were onl two men in her life and she maried both of them in turn in accordance with egyptian laws. She was a great queen and a dedicated mother.
Go Cleo!

I would've voted for Meryetamun, but she wasn't really a queen. And she wasn't up there. Too bad. _________________

Yeah, sorry, I couldn't find her name in the book I was looking at and I couldn;t remember if she were just a royal wife or a royal Queen.
I voted for Nefertiti because she was the highest esteemed queen in Egyptian History. She was always portrayed right alongside her husband and usually not much smaller than he. She was pictured more than any other queen, and she must have had a very high reputation in the royal courts.
I do need to agree with Kiya on the point of Cleopatra. It is sad what Hollywood has done to her. _________________ -Akhenaten- |

I voted for Nefertari, too. She was the mother of Meryetamun, and she was said to be the loveliest woman in Egypt. I also voted for her mostly why Akhenaten voted for her. And about Cleopatra, well, I don't really think she's all that, because I'm against suicide. Anybody who commits suicide isn't a role model for me. And also because the boys in my class go nuts whenever they see a picture of her. _________________

From what I read, Nefertari acted exactly the way you said! And, yes. The names are similar and confusing. _________________

Yeah, that's funny. Now I do see the similarites, I don't know a lot about Nefertari, though. _________________ -Akhenaten- |

I have to disagree with your comments on Cleopatra. We cannot judge her by the standards we go by today. In her time and in her situation, souicide was the only option for her. Having said that I don't think she or Hatshepsut for that mater, should be in the queens poll unless we are looking at them purely from the perspective of them as Great Royal Wives, wich they both were, but it wasn't their main role. The word we translate as 'queen' as we know mean's 'King's Wife' while they were both pharaohs. They should have been in the pharaohs poll.
By the way why do you say Meritamun wasn't really a queen? Of course she was, a queen and a Great Royal Wife, to her father Ramses II, when her mother died jointly with her half-sister Bintanath. |

Yes, I agree with you on the point about Cleopatra. But both she and Hatshepstu were queens before they were Pharaohs, also. I have them in the Pharaoh poll, too, as far as I know. If I neglected to add them I'll make sure I do next time. _________________ -Akhenaten- |

Well, I believe there always is a way out, no matter what the situation. She was just taking the easy way out, instead of facing what she had to. I can't look up to some one like that. I don't mean to offend anyone, but she was a coward. _________________

| 'Coward eh'? Well lets see. She'd watched her sister Arsinoe dragged through the streets of Rome in chains, she'd watched her father go begging on his knees to the Romans for aid, she'd watched her other sister Berenice murdered by the Romans, all the dignity was gone from her family. At least with suicide she could go out with some pride. Cut her some slack for goodness sake! |

Well, I just believe hat she didn't have to commit suicide. It's the easier way out. She could have faced her problems head on. All people have problems, and some people watch thier parents die. I just don't think that suicide is the brave thing to do. _________________

I voted for Hatshepsut - the female king.
Ever since I first learned of Hatshepsut a few years ago I have been interested in her and the astonishing affect she had over the 18th Dynasty. Her time of rule was one of the most peaceful and prosperous in the whole of Egypt and had she been a man it would have been remembered and talked about as one of the greatest periods and turning points of Egypt, even now. Instead, because of the fact she was female and, in part, because of Tuthmosis III she was essentially wiped out from history and her achievements forgotton until (I think) the 1820's.
I feel if a conscious attempt to erase the memory of her had not been taken we would all know a little more about the role of this remarkable women and she would be deemed one of the true queens of Egypt, possibly more popular than the mainstream choices of Cleopatra and Nefertiti.
