Another good talk at our Egypt society. One little thing - you can tell which side of an avenue a sphinx came from - the tail will be on the side you see as you approach - the great sphinxs tail is on the causeway side.

Hmm...that's an interesting theory that I've not heard before. Did they say how they reached that conclusion?

Basicaly the Egyptians wanted a representation to show everything - for instance they show the contents of a box when realy you can not see them. This ties up with the post on bows in peculiar places so the string does not hide the face.
Also I presume they looked at in situe avenues.
another thing he mentioned - you often see arms on the wrong shoulder - see where the thumbs are.
