Claude II,
I do think the same about that obelisk and many others in Rome, but still you have the wrong attitude here!

The fact that you think differently from other people in this site, doesn't give you the permission to insult anybody.
We are all here to discuss and confrontate, but not to offend!
I really think you should apologise!

To all of you who I have offended!
I do apologise

Claude II,
I personally like the fact the you apologise.
I apologise too for telling you to go playing near the Highway...and to chose one clogged with traffic....I know that's not fair at all!

Let's take things in a softner way, when we discuss (we = I mean all of us, me and you included!!). We all should not always think that we are right, but that there can be different aspects to consider. We all should try to be aware that we often consider only one side of the problem, but there can be many others.

Let's start again with a different feeling and...please, (my advice) do not insist with your thesis when you see that many are thinking differently from you. You don't have to convince anybody.

ciao

Wink

Laughing Laughing Laughing You have my sence for humor man Wink
And I mean it when i apologise and that is for you all

Yes you are right we should try to rich some kind of compromise
I have been in touch with UNESCO and was suprised.....
Do you now that there is an agreement beetwen all our
countries to return Key relics to the country they belong in!
And Italy was first to show it respect for UN...

Here is two other cases pending in UNESCO
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In September 1984, Greece filed a request with the UNESCO Intergovernmental
Committee in view of the restitution of the famous Parthenon Marbles of Athens,
removed on the order of Lord Elgin, British Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
These works, which have been on display in the British Museum in London
since their purchase by the British State, have been the subject of lasting
controversy since Greece became independent in 1830. In 1984, the Greek
Minister of Culture, Melina Mercouri, demanded their restitution. During
several sessions, in particular in 1989, 1991, 1994 and 1996, the Committee
adopted recommendations calling for an amicable settlement of the dispute.
Reiterated in 1999, the Committee invited the Director-General of UNESCO
to take new initiatives designed to encourage bilateral negotiations between
Greece and the United Kingdom.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
❚ In January 1986, Turkey filed a request with the Intergovernmental Committee
concerning the return of a Hittite Sphinx, currently kept at the Staatliches Museum
Vorderasiatische Abteilung in Berlin. In the years 1906-1907 and 1911-1912,
over 10,000 cuneiform tablets and two sphinxes were discovered at the Turkish
archaeological site of Boguskoy. In 1917, these objects were temporarily sent
to the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin to be cleaned, restored, catalogued and
published. In 1924 and 1942, 2,943 tablets and one of the sphinxes were sent
back to Turkey, unlike other pieces, mainly due to the lack of safe passage
during conflict. Bilateral negotiations are underway, encouraged by a new
Recommendation adopted at the 11th session of the Committee, which invites
the two parties to continue negotiations and the Director-General to offer his
support to resolve this issue.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Dr. Hawass will succed wether you like it or not Confused
It will take time but this relics wil find their way home.....

Hi everybody
Miss you Wink

Read this story abut Joan Fletcher and the DNA result.
To be honest i think that Dr. Hawass step ove the line when he banned
her from Egypt! But i still support his quest to bring the key relics back
home to Egypt. That is a different thing Wink

I'll agree to disagree with you on the whole Nefertiti thingy but I have mixed opinions of Fletcher. I was unaware that she had been banned from Egypt, but I do know that she is an absolute Liar. She exceeds even Hawass in her ability to turn any find into one that's fantastic for the press. I find it amusing rather than annoying, and indeed, one of the most interesting and intriguing characters in the history of Archaeology is to me Heinrich Schliemann. Schliemann was a hundred times worse than Fletcher, claiming to have discovered the Tomb of Agamemmnon, the bathroom where hewas murdered the jewelry of Helen of Troy, and indeed Troy itself! It's all quite amusing. His house in Athens is fantastic, decorated in mock Greek Style with hundreds of painted frescoes showing the capture of Troy.

Heh.

Well then we finaly agree one thing Wink (Thath we disagree) Laughing

Zahi Hawass head of Egypts Supreme Council of Antiquities was so insensed with Dr Fletcher's behaviour that he banned her and York University from working in Egypt for the forseeable future. In addition he went so far as to get a DNA test done to prove that the mummy in question was the body of a male and therefore couldn't possibly be Nefertiti

Hehehe. He really wanted to show her up. Well, she must have been pretty dumb not to have seen it coming. She marches into an already discovered Mummy cache, finds a mummy with a crossed arm and starts larking around everywhere saying she's found Nefertiti. Of course, Hawass assumes all along that Fletcher knew it wasn't Nefertiti. She might just have made an honest mistake- she was an expert in hairstyles afterall.

Anyway- check out Schleimann- he'll make you laugh. Possibly.

You all know that Hawass is not a love of mine, but we should try to imagine how many crazy people he has to meet, face and sometimes even to fight who have strange ideas and want to put them into practice. He has the big responsability not to let these crazy guys destroy everything.... Wink
I personally think that maybe he exagerated a little banning Fletcher, he already smashed her face with DNA text..It would have been already enough...no?....more, it serves as an example for all the others... Evil or Very Mad

I totally agree with you!
This is why I am not always agree with him but to use that as an argument
for not returning stolen goods is in my why of thinking wrong.
The law is the law even if we dont like the man/women who are
upholding the law!

I have discussed this matter on a British history forum and at my
surprise! there where a lot of people that agree with me Wink

They though the time has come to bring those relics back
and we talked abut many different objects.

Italy hade set the standard and we should all follow

He's a pain. He wants everything that is from Egypt back in Egypt...here are my reasons why he is wrong:

1: The Cairo Museum isn't safe. King Tut's mummy is fragile, the mummies in the Metropolitan aren't...why? Because they have been kept in constant controlled enviroments.

2: I can go to the Metropolitan and be there in two hours, plus my mom don't mind me being in NY as long as I have a few friends with me. Plus Egypt is a little scary...I want to learn Arabic first before I go over there, I don't want to be the typical 'stupid' American.

3: Some people can't afford to go to Egypt. That's why we have museums that have stuff from all around the world...which I like very much.

4: Plus I can visit my favorite Queen's carving and hopefully when I go back I can get a better picture.
