| Hallo, I am actually a botanist and recently came upon a statement in a graduate's report: Chocolate was around 1500BC in Egypt! Anybody else caught up with this unlikely rumour? Any proof? Of course everyone knows that the Egyptians and the Mayas were in constant contact.... |

Chocolate was not used in AE.
It was not seen in the Old World until it was brought there by the conquest of Mexico/South America.
It takes a big stretch of the imagination to think that the Maya and the AE were in contact. |

Where did you find this "strange" infos?? Of course Mayas and Egyptian were NOT in touch!... |

I know they made a sort of wheat with carubs, but not that sort of chocolate you mean....  |

| The carob trees fruit, called nedjem by the ancient Egyptians, was also used to brew an alcoholic beverage, but as Maatkaara says, it was not used as chocolate. |
