This may sound very silly but...
What's your favorite Egyptian god/goddess and why???
For me it's Anubis. I don't know why, but I have always liked the way he "looked" (his black jackal head)...mysterious...
And I like his function too : weighing the heart, comparing the weight of the heart with a feather...

My favourites are:
Seshat - Goddess of writing.
Meretseger - Snake goddess that was worshipped at Deir el-Medina.
Sobek - Crocodile headed god. _________________ -Indeed, I am alive today; tomorrow is in god's hands-

I like Thoth- because he is a god of wisdom, writing and art.
I like him best as an ibis and not a baboon.
I also like anubis because he is guardian of the dead and just because he is fun to draw or paint. _________________ egyptianscribe

My top three gods:
Thoth- pretty much the same reasons as egyptianscribe's.
Osiris- He's one I can really relate to, because I think out of all the gods, he's the one most like a human. I feel so sorry for him, getting chopped up and all!
Ptah- I'm an artsy person myself, plus Ptah seems very down to earth, being the god of craftsmen and all. _________________ The limit of one's craftsmanship cannot be attained. -paraphrase of the sage Ptahotep |

I like Ptah too. I think its hard to pick favorites
because they are all so interesting.
I also like Khnum because he crafted people's ka on a potter's wheel.
He is like the ceramics god!
But if I must pick a favorite I would have to say Thoth. He is inspirational to me as an artist somehow. He's also fun to paint. _________________ egyptianscribe

I've always been drawn to Isis. Magic, love, a good mother, and a value of truth.
When we first learned about Egypt in first grade I automatically like the woman with the wings and the chair on her head. As I grew up I learned more about her and for my sixth grade project I did a biography on her.
As I got older and went to middle school I met my one friend and we're the opposite, she is facinated by Nepthys, me by Isis. Since both of us share the same very common first name, she ended up nicknaming me Isis, and I nicknamed her Nepthys. We are like sisters too. We've had our disagreements and have gone not talking for a year.
We just joke that if she ever does anything with my husband, I'm killing her. She just smiles and shakes her head.
But I also like Anubis and Horus, both are very fun to draw and both are interesting. _________________ History is nothing but a bunch of lies old men have agreed upon |

Bes the god of music and dance, the god of war and slaughter, and a destroying force of nature. He was also a protector of children, women and the home and probably other things as the sources are inconsistant.
I have been to Egypt several times and I have seen huge abounts of junk in the souvenier shops but only 2 beses - 1 big 1 & the small 1 I bought on my last visit. |

| A good example, and they might have a reproduction for sale in the gift shop, is the face of Bes on the headrest of Tutankhamen. |
