In Egyptian art faces are shown in profile & eyes full on. There is at least one place where a face or faces is shown in the normal modern representational style. Can anyone tell me where as I have forgotten.
Also as a trivia question - why is/are it/they not in the normal Egyptian style? |

In sculpture of course! Also 2 dimensional representation of Bes and Hathor (in woman form usually found on columns) are in frontal view.
There are a few hieroglyphs that show a face in the frontal view. They are the human "face" [D2], the "owl" [G17] and its variants [G18-G20], and I have seen a hieroglyphic frontal view of a sphinx but I do not see it on Gardiner's sign list.
Hope this helps.

| Also found recently was that sketch of Hatshepsut. I was probably done by an artist as a preliminary drawing of an intended statue, but it shows remarkable ability of the Egyptian artist for full-frontal work. |

Osiris, would you happen to know if they have a picture of that somewhere online? ^_^ I'd actually like to see it. _________________

| You were close when you said a sculpture. What I was thinking of was a wall carving showing a sculpture which looked strange in 'modern' style among the pictures of people in Egyptian style. |

| I thought that there was not much difference between 19tc century European sculpture & Egyptian work (appart from clothes & animal heads) |

I don't recall ever seeing it on-line. I remember it from an article I saw in the newspaper, shortly after it had been discovered.
You might try a Google search of "images" of Hapshepsut and see if it's there.
If I run across it--and I'm always killing time surfing the web, I'll certainly copy the URL for you. |

Awww, thanks so much, and I'll google it too, it sounds really cool, I haven't really seen the frontal-view drawings or sketches in any AE art...then again, it was a rarity they did that, buuut...I still haven't seen one as of yet. @_@
Thanks again, Osiris! _________________

| The 2 types of representation makes me think about the minds of the Egyptians. |
