Hello, and welcome to KTO! You're into egyptology, but what about it is fascinating, if you could pick one point over the other?

I like finding just random trivia on the subject, really. Also, I am "trying" to learn hieroglyphics. It's not an easy task, believe me!

But, feel welcome!

Welcome to KTO, Aria!

I, too, like your avatar. That was a good book (Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII: Daughter of the Nile) Smile I read in 7th grade and had to do an oral book report on it.

I recommend reading it, actually. If anyone hasn't. Wasn't bad.

Aria- nice to meet you. I am Psusennes. I hope you find your time here interesting, informative and most of all enjoyable. We are all here because we have an interest in the longest lasting civilisation on earth - that of the Ancient Egyptians.

I too teach myself hieroglyphs, and now consider myself to be fairly proficient in the basic foundations of the language. I wrote a few lessons for a teach-yourself course som time ago which failed miserably, but you might be interested in reading the lessons themselves. They are based on what I wanted to know when I started out, and I'll be happy to e-mail them if you so wish. Also, everyone here will be happy to answer any questions you may have on the language - which is my favourite aspect of Egyptology.

I too am fifteen, and am studying Ancient Greek and history in detail at school to set me up for a degree in Egyptology (Ancient Egyptian Oriental Studies), which I really, really would like to do. Have fun.

Hey Psus, those were actually good lessons you had constructed. I do believe they should come back - remember the only reason it failed was lack of motivation (e.g. typical teenage empathy).

In that case I shall write some more. They were good fun to write, and really made me think about what I was saying. I have e-mailed the first two parts to you, Aria, but that's only about 1% of what would constitute the whole course. After lesson II (which I'm writing now) you'd need to start learning what is known as syntax, which would include biliteral, triliteral and determinative signs, and then move onto some basic grammar and formulae before you started on 'real' texts.

I hope that these first 'trial' lessons are of use.
