....Ptah!!!! He is my favorite, the God of artisans and fire!! Plus that skullcap he wears is indeed stylish!!! ^__^ But that's just me... In all honesty, though, all the Gods are awesome in my book. _________________

there is nothing as funny as having nicknames for historical figures/gods. then again, i've taken up the habit of refering to mozart as wolfy much less referring to elvis as elvy, the big e, or el.
akhie...oh man. lmao. well, i suppose it's about as tacky as tutankhamen being known as tut.
as far as favorite egyptian gods/godesses...
hathor
isis
osiris
anubis
nut
amun-ra
bast
horus
thoth
aten
nepthys

persephone
orpheus
echo
narsissis
promethius
odysseus/ulysses
calypso
hera
athena/ares
pluto/hades
poseidon/neptune
zeus/jupiter
icarus
charon the boatman of the river styx
did you know that the "lotus eaters" of the odyssey were in fact the egyptians? the blue lily (easily confused with a lotus) is an opiate drug. |

Did you know that the "lotus eaters" of the odyssey were in fact the egyptians?
It's an interesting idea but I'm afraid that it is highly debatable, especially when one considers the fact that the Odyssey also features a race of people whose boats steer themselves and whose crops bloom perpetually, as well as cyclopes, giants, churning whirlpools and so on. Every so ofter there are waves of investigations suggesting that Ithaca was infact [insert small Greek Island here], but really it's all tenuous.
Hmmm. Gods, gods, gods. Favourite name? Qebehsenuef. "The refresher of his brothers" It's both aptly long and mellifluous, but also has quite an interesting translation.
Favourite name from the whole of the Odyssey? It has to be Ogygia (Ogoogia). _________________

| I have been looking for some pictures of a goddess with either vulture/butterfly wings. I swear that when I was a little girl I had an Eyewitness book and two pages of it were covered with Mut or whoever she is. Nubia section. |

It must have been Nekhbet, female protectress of Upper Egypt. She was the multifaceted vulture-guardian of Nubia, the goddess who existed in duality with the paprus coloured Snake goddess Wadjet. She and Wadjet often appear on the Pharaoh's ensignia, and feauture as part of the royal titulary in the Pharaoh's name of the 'two ladies,' their nebty name.
Nekhbet is often shown (like you say) as a vulture headed woman, but also appears as a vulture, and a woman wearing a sort of vulture-headress of the sort favoured by Nefertari.
Here's a nice mirror of her you could buy:

Normally I would have said Anubis is my favorite, but the majority of people that know anything at all about Egypt is entirely obsessed with him; especially, I have found, among n00bs. (Not that anyone here is, though; so no offense) Soo...I would say that the coolest is Sehkmet. But I have always liked Tefnut, for reasons even I don't know. But the god with the coolest head of them all has got to be khepri. I mean, honestly, who wouldn't want to have a dungbeetle for a face? XD I like Wepwawet solely because I can't say his name 10 times fast, and I think the funniest looking would be Bes. XD |

I would have to say that one of my absolute favourites is Aten-Ra. He is the embodiement infinate attributes, hence absolute dictator and ruler of the entirety of Egyptian mythology. During his short lived reign he had unquestioned power. Yes... power is good... very good . _________________ Once upon a midnight dreary....

Despite the fact I have an affinity with Hathor (I am a naughty little cow ) I can't think of any god to be better than another.
It's with their full harmony that we learn and grow up...
