|
|
Hi I have a question to ask,if anyone can tell me or lead me to helpful sites or links online, I appreciate it!
Hi,I'm new here and I'm trying to find out where the EXACT GEOGRAPHICAL CENTER of EGYPT is,and what city or town lies there, from Ancient or modern times,OR what city or town is closest to the Geographical center of Egypt.
I've read in some books that the Geographical center of Egypt is where the Ancient city of AKHETATEN was built,by orders of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. Now in our time, the city,or the closest one nearby the geographical center of Egypt is called Tell-el-Amarna.
I'm also trying to find out the LATITUDE & LONGITUDE of the Geographical center of Egypt,so if anyone here can help me with these questions and locations,it's very very APPRECIATED!
Hope to recieve some replies,if you can post links to sites online, etc.
Thanks to all!

Interesting Hmm.... *Amarna-fan* I never heard that Akhet-Aten is the geographical center of Egypt, but... who knows? I thought Akhenaten built that city because of the position of the surrounding valleys ... But that's interesting... I would be interested in, too, if anyone has any idea about it... _________________ http://belldandy.freeblog.hu --> my blog site |

Welcome to KingTutOne, hotsauce!
I'm not 100% positive if my answers are correct. It wasn't difficult to find this information. I looked up Egypt in the World Factbook¹ and found it's coordinates (27 00 N, 30 00 E). I opened up the Google Earth² program and entered the naviaations (27 00 N, 30 00 E). It sent me to what looks to be the dead center of Egypt. Then I zoomed in closer and it seems like a city named Tima.
Again, this is just something I guess you can start off with. The coordinates I found may not be the very center of Egypt and there could very well be a city much closer to the center than Tima.
¹ The World Factbook is a great source for finding information about all the countries on Earth. It gives imformation about the counties' Geography, Economy, People, etc. - http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook
²Google Earth works like a virtual map just like Google Maps or Yahoo Maps or Mapquest. Just one main difference; this program is in 3D. - http://earth.google.com
