oh,no pls!...I could vote for Ilona Staller, then!!
...Ahmose Nefertari and Hatshepsut are my favourites....(hatshepsut has always been a woman, she just have been represented as a man in order to underline his right to keep the post as Pharaoh)...she's the best! |

Queen Elizabeth is another of my favorites.
Can we all agree that MaryI was the worst female ruler ever? |

Mary I? She was fairly pathetic it seems, more than overshadowed by Elizabeth. She did however attempt, although unsuccesfully, to implement reforms that would have made England safer and more prosperous- had they succeeded.
I'm very interested in that period of History. Anyone heard of Arbella Stuart? I went through a phase of interest in her. _________________

No. She was very evil and very Catholic. Why is it always Catholic Queens?
Anyway,if she got what she wanted,we would all be speaking Spanish today.
She wanted to marry the king of Spain. But then if they had any heirs,or if she died, England would be made a protectorate of Spain.
She did marry him,but the people hated her for the decision.
For the Catholic persecution of the Protesetants see Foxes Book of Martyrs. |

Welcome to KTO, punk_ankhsenamun!
I'm afraid my interest in English history lies soely in Arthurian legend, and I cannot relate to your hate for Mary I or your love for Elizabeth. Why do you love and hate these queens? _________________ "Does anyone ever truly think 'outside' of the box, or are they merely expanding the possibilities of what that box can hold to suit their own agenda?"

". . . .part from Mary I, i hate her....even if she IS the first queen of england!"
What about Matilda? She was crowned Queen in London in 1134, but was hated by the populace so much that she was forced to flee the area for her own safety. She had also been named as Queen of England by her father. . . but the whole thing's sort of disputable.

I think you may be getting two Matilda's mixed up. Empress Matilda, daughter and heir of Henry I, was known as 'Lady of the English' but was never crowned as such. The nobles refused to believe a woman could govern. 1134 saw the birth of Geoffrey, son of Matilda and her husband. This son was later known as Geoffrey VI of Anjou, Count of Nantes and Anjou. When she went to London to be crowned in 1134, she had to flee before the cremony as the Londoners rebelled.
The wife of King Stephen was also called Matilda and was Queen.

Yes I found her fascinating. She was the Great Great Granddaughter of Henry VII. His daughter Margaret Tudor married Archibald Douglas, earl of Angus, and gave birth to Margaret Douglas who was the mother of Lord Darnley and Charles Stuart, father of Arbella. |
