Completely off topic with our discussions regarding ancient Egypt, I've been watching the news concerning the terrorist attack in London. Truely horrorable! They haven't a total death count yet, but in four blasts--in the subway, buses--over 300 people have been injured.
Do you realize how deep the underground is in London? Here's a group of people, on the way to work in the trains, having the train blasted, stopped, no lights, groping the way to the nearest station in the dark, avoiding the third rail, gasping for breath, climbing stopped escalators to the surface? Beyond horror!
If any of the KTO crowd is in London--my deepest sympathy and concern. This, like the 9/11 attack in New York, is just an unwarrented action against innocent peoples.

Well, update from contacts in the Treasury Security office and from workers in Royal Hospital say that ovr 1000 have been injured now and nearly 100 are confirmed dead, though news reports are only confirming 30-40 dead at this stage. The transport for the city has been stopped completely and rwescue operations are still underway to try and help those trapped in collapsed tunnels in the underground. The attack has halted most of our major lines and millions of people (including myself) had to walk miles home because there are no buses, trains or cabs in the whole city. A friend of mine is haveing to walk 18 miles home because there is no other way to do it tonight. The structural damage to the underground will be immense as many of the tunnels hit are over 100 years old. Bombs and power surges have caused the whole city to grind to a standstill, phone lines are jammed with the number of calls, there are no police because of G8 and no ambulances because of the disaster. Vast areas in London have been shut down so that casualties can be transported to hospitals before the grid lock of the virtual evacuation of the city begins. Many people were locked into bomb shelters and basements for hours whilst the city was cleared and large parts of the city were empty today for hours, completely deserted by the workers fleeing in fear.

My heartfelt sympathy for all those affected by this horror.
My heart goes out to all those who may have lost a loved one.

I had wondered about the low estimates of the casualties. Four explosions at that time of day would have potential for great amount of damage.

I do not live in the UK but I have travelled there and have been at King's Cross at that time of day. Chills ran down my spine when I read the reports and later saw images of what transpired.

All I can do is think of the thousands of people that were there, and those that are possibly still buried hundreds of feet underground where tunnels have collapsed. Its horrific, I keep getting chills up and down my spine as I see all of the places I reguarly go to on the news, scorched black with the explosion and filled with police and ambulances, its horrific.

UPDATE:

As of 1 P.M., Pacific Time, Thursday...At least 37 dead, 700 injured, some still missing. London is almost at a stand-still. First reports told the public a power surge was the cause of the Underground explsions. The blasts hit 3 trains, then another explosion tore apart a 2 level bus--showing everyone, without doubt, that the blasts were terrorist's work. As of now, three trains were damaged, three tunnels were also damaged, the bus was a total loss. The dead count is expected to increase as the missing are found.

This is truly awful. I sincerely hope the bastards responsible are found and swiftly dealt with. My thoughts and prayers are with our members in London and their friends and families.

I truly frightened when I saw this in an Egyptian magazine... it was horrible. One of my teachers is in there, too...

This HAS to be one of the most distressing, most frightening time since 9/11. I remember, the day before it happened, my cousin was in the twin towers on a tour. He's lucky he didn't go in the next day. To think I was standing in front of it 3 months before it happened. I never went inside them, and my aunt and uncle felt bad for not taking me before it happened, but...how could they know? My mom said it was best, and that I would've been traumitized by it even MORE.

Perhaps, she is right.

Now look, first New York, NOW London almost 4 years later! Crying or Very sad

I'm thinking..."Are ALL the major cities of trade gonna be hit?!" It was New York and London, I'm thninking now, What's it gonna be in the NEXT 4 years!? You can't help but think, "Who's next?".

My regards and sympathies to all in London right now, and I hope everyone's reletives are safe and sound.

Psus is fine, he's a good hundred and fifty miles away from it all! lol, us Londoners are having hell getting about though and a general feeling of fear is hanging over the city, hundreds of policemen are swarming around the stations, there are constant announcements about being vigilant. Its a horrible atmosphere.

One thing is for sure; if England needs any help with getting rid of the terrorists that threaten them, the United States will be there. I'm sure of it. My sympathies go out to the families of those who died, and obviously the injured and their families.
