In the movie, The Mummy, and The Mummy Returns, where the heck did they come up witgh "Anaksunamun?" The only ancient Egyptian name close to it was Ankhsunamun, and that was in a totally different pierod that Djoser. Imhotep was never a priest, he was an architect. He wasn't alive near Ankhsunamun's time. I think the pharoah in the movie was Ramasses II. Another totally different time period. Where did they come up with Hamunaptra? Man, these people are wierd. They sure can come up with stuff! |

Yep, they made a lot of stuff up. Including the Book of the Dead, which wasn't really in a book. Duh, the Ancient Egyptian's didn't even know what a book was. But I guess that a scroll wold have been too hard to use.
I'm guessing they weren't gong for real Egyptian names for the right periods. The Pharaoh was Seti I, Ramses II's father, the Preist was Imhotep, the wife of Pharaoh and lover of Imhopte was Anacksunamun, and Pharaoh's daughter was Nefertiti.
But even though all of that information is off, they did have an Archaeologist specializing in Ancient Launguages on the set for both of the mummy movies and for Stargate. I read that in a magazine called "Egypt Uncovered." Unfortunately it's not around any more, but it was pretty cool.

Yeah. Good point. Was there really a "scroll of the living?" I don't think so. The scroll of the dead was to help mummies live in the other life. Why would they need one for the living? I saw Stargate. The Egyptians didn't have that kind of technology to make a stargate, and Ra was not really an alien, he wasn't real at all. Besides, there were no records of the Egyptians meeting Ra, or being terrorized by Anubis looking soldiers. Strange how they think that a god would come on earth and chase the peopl. Laughable even. |

| Oh, yeah. they were. But, they were recreating ancient Egypt, weren't they? And those were Egyptian symbols on the gate. That must mean that supposedly the Egyptians created that. |

Yeah, I guess so. And they did discover the gate in Egypt.
Oh well, the world may never know _________________ -Akhenaten- |

| Yeah. Too bad their logic was well, holey. No pun intended. (Amun Ra was holy in Egyptian religion, bad pun anyway.) |

I think any movie about Egypt rock's! It just get's Egypt more in our face; you know. Seem's I never get enough of her.
And as far as the alien issue is concerned ... nobody know's for certain where we came from. I personally have alway's felt that the sphinx is a store house (library) of ancient Egypt and the Great pyramid's are a gateway. i.e. The Burmuda triangle. It take's me back to that movie "Jewel of the Nile" where they found the stolen convenant. How groovey was that? |

Stargate is based on the notion that the Ancient Egyptians were inspired by extraterrestrials to build their great civilization. Such a concept was popularized by Erik Von Daniken's "Chariots of the Gods", which talks about the supposed alien influence in the various primitive cultures of the world.
Stargate Sg-1 (the TV series) seems to be more correct than The Mummy. Dynasties and important figures are not jumbled about like in the latter. |

There's some stuff about aliens shaping the human race and an interview with the man who wrote "Chariot of the Gods" on the Stargate ultimate edition DVD, if anyone was interested in looking into it more. _________________ -Akhenaten- |

One thing about names: Remember, just as today many people are named John, Sarah, Robert, or Mary, Egyptians had the same names too. The movie Imhotep was a different Imhotep than the vizier- it is not silly to imagine such. In fact, the most popular name at any given time was the reigning king's name, as everyone wanted to name their little boy after the big man himself! _________________ The gods surround and watch me in my place -

I know, but sometimes it just seems like they go:
"Oh, hey! Look at this name! Imhotep. It sounds cool."
"Ok, put it in the script."
