| As a new member, I am truly confused. I always believed that Nefertiti and Nefertari were the same Queen with just a spelling difference. Now, I read that Nefertari was wife of Ramses II while Nefertiti was wife of Akhenaten. Unfortunately, most of the public believed that too. Has it been confirmed that there were 2 different Nefers? Also, there were 7 Cleopatras? The general public thinks there was only one! |

Yes Myron, as you now know, Nefertiti and Nefertari were different individuals that lived approxiamately 50 years apart.
The Chief Royal Wife of Akehenaten's full name was Nefer-neferuaten Nefertiti, which means 'Beauty [of] beautiful of Aten, The beautiful one[woman] [is] come', lived in the 18th Dynasty sometime bewteen 1394 b.c. and 1340 b.c. As with many ancient dates, these vary slightly between scholars.
The Chief Royal Wife of Ramses II's full name was Nefertari-Meri-Mut which means, 'The most beautiful of all the land, Beloved of Mut", and lived sometime between 1292 b.c. and 1225 b.c.. Again these dates will vary.

remember, Nefertari had a temple built for her (abu simbel), while Nefertiti is known for a famous bust of her head......egyptologists and religious scholars believe the hebrew riot (aka moses) happened in nefertari's lifetime.....
Cleopatras older sister was named Cleopatra as well....only she had Typhenea or something like that.... |

The general public also thinks there was only one Ramesses... But then, not everyone is an expert on ancient history...
Cleopatra's older sister was Cleopatra Tryphaena. I'm not sure about this but this was their mother's name too. In fact Cleopatra's full name was Cleopatra Selene. It seems most of the girls of the family got the name Cleopatra just like the 18th century every princess had Mary in her name. _________________ Thou appearest beautifully on the horizon of heaven |

Gah, the Ptolemaic dynasty is confusing. Not only did they intermarry withing the family (as the ancient egyptians often did) they all had the same names. The male heir's were the "Ptolemy's" and the females were mostly Cleopatra's, with the exception of a few Bernice' and Arisone. Here's a pic of the family tree
I personally don't know too much about the Ptolemaic dynasty, it's not that interesting to me, maybe it's because it's a bit too recent! lol!
PS. How do you get rid of the annoying underline thats always in the text before the picture? _________________ "Pharaoh he was a powerful man, with the ancient world in the palm of his hands, for all intents and purposes he, was Egypt, with a capital E..." |

Lol! yupyup, only the good millenia old days!
As for the Rameses thing, I guess people just don't really pay attention to details? Kinda like...selective reading? lol! _________________ "Pharaoh he was a powerful man, with the ancient world in the palm of his hands, for all intents and purposes he, was Egypt, with a capital E..." |

Do people really believe that two of the most famous queens in Egyptian history, who were married to the most famous two kings in egyptian history, were one and the same? I'm gobsmacked.
As for the Cleopatra's, well I had set up a website dedicated solely to Potlemiac royal women but I had some problems with it. The most famous Cleopatra was known as Cleoptra VII but the problem was there were a hell of a lot more than that. Firstly she wasn't the last Cleopatra, mearly the last pharaoh. Her daughter, Cleoptra Selene (Moon) was captured by Octavian and later married JUba of Numidia. As a wedding present she was created Queen of Mauretania in her own right. Octavian seemed to have soft spot for her.
Secondly Cleopatra VII was not known as Selene. She was known as Cleopatra Philopator (FAther loving).
The confusing thing is that many of the Cleopatras were reigning queens while some were wives of the king. I have counted about 15 so far. I willl list them all next time i'm online as I have to rush of now:-) |

um, im new here so................
as for the topic> nefertari vs. nefeertiti
i dunno, but, for some reason ive always liked nefertari better, but i like the idea of nefertiti's sensual dance for the sun god, lol, sounds like some fun.
but i like nerfertari bacause she was a strong leader.
question: in the movie the ten commandments nefertari hated ramses and loved moses, did she in real life too? _________________ So let it be written, so let it be done,

JESUS! Do you guys live under rocks? There is NO historical evidence that Moses lived under the reign of Ramses II, much less that Nefertari was in love with him!!! It is argued that Nefertari and Ramses were actually deeply in love, shown by her individual temple at Abu Simbel and the sheer attention put into the creation of her tomb (the most beautiful in the whole of Egypt). It really gets me cross when people see these (frankly awful) films and beleive that they have any credulity! Grrrrrrrrr, I would like one fair portrayal of the Egyptians within film, rather than making them hopelessly erotic and exotic or making them cruel slave driving barbarians! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. _________________ Thou dost appear beautiful on the horizon of heaven, oh living Amun, he who was the first to live. |

I think Si-amun was just feeling frustrated by the Moses-Rameses-Nefertari thread. I can't say that I really blame him--we've commented on this same subject time and time again--ad nauseum...
Let me just state, one more time--there is NO VERIFIABLE INFORMATION on this subject. There is NO record, ther than the Bible, that Moses existed. All indications are that Rameses and Nefertari were very much in love, and cared deeply for one another.

Being half Egyptian, and named after Nefertari(full name is Nefertari Nefre)...I better know the difference! My grandmother would kill me, if I didn't! Well, not really, but she'd be quite unhappy with me! LOL _________________

Oh no! I love the Ptolemies! They were so interesting and willing to do anything for power.
I put together a more detailed Ptolemaic family tree quite a while ago which actually included all the various marriages, children, offspring of Cleopatra Thea, daughter of Ptolemy VI and Cleopatra II plus Cleopatra's and Anotnious's other three children. I lost it when my laptop was stolen. When I have time I think I will put it together again. |
