If it is putting money into Egypt, and opening directors to the idea of increasing public awareness to Egyptian history then it has to be a good thing.

But that will speed up the destruction of the temples. . . . and the film might be really bad.

It is good and bad.

In the past, any movie put out by Hollywood has been...lacking?...in accuracy about ancient Egypt. They have been great entertainment, pushing the buttons of everyone with huge battle-scenes, epic love stories and amazing detail--usually all wrong.
As you say, it may be a good thing in that it will pump lots of money into Egypt's resources--that's for the good. Interesting people in ancient Egypt? That would be good, too. But as an historically correct drama concerning Egypt, I doubt very much Hollywood will follow a narrow line of accuracy.

Really, I don't feel that we should blame Hollywood for historical innacuracy unless they are leading the public to believe something that may somehow be derogatory to Egypt or its peoples.

They are trying to make a decent movie and make money, one must remember. Nevertheless is it really too hard to invest in some basic historical research, I ask? I think not.

A prime example of liberties taken by Hollywood is the epic "Troy". They took a story that had be around for 2000 years and radically atered it, to fit there conception of a "wonderful, entertaining movie", that, in my humble opinion, really smelled! A 10 year war was cut to a couple of days, Paris and Helen ran off together and, presumably, lived happily ever after, Agememmon was killed in Troy, etc. etc.
Wholesale alterations of historical known facts seems to be Hollywood's metre.

I suspect though, that it has the potential to be as bad as that upcoming Tut movie is probably gonna be. It should be a painful, though enjoyable experience.
